GOP will take over House, political guru Sabato predicts
WASHINGTON — The Democrats are likely to lose 47 seats and control of the House of Representatives in November's elections, a top political analyst says in a new forecast Thursday.

Larry Sabato , a political scientist at the University of Virginia , also says that the Democrats are likely to lose eight or nine seats in the Senate , eight governors' offices and 300 to 500 seats in state legislatures.

"The numbers are eye-catching. Republicans are dramatically gaining in all categories," Sabato said in an interview. "It's generated by a rotten economy and a strong conservative reaction against President Obama."

The analysis marks the first time this year that Sabato and the University's Center for Politics have predicted a Republican takeover of the House.

Sabato is one of the most consistently accurate election prognosticators. His final pre-election analysis in 2006 got the exact number of Democratic gains in the House and Senate and was off by only one in governors' races. In 2008, he missed the final Electoral College count by only one, and missed the final House tally by only five seats.

"2010 was always going to be a Republican year, in the midterm tradition. It has simply been a matter of degree," Sabato said in a written analysis released on Thursday.

Let's hope that the political environment changes in the next few months and the outcomes are much different...

1. Let the investigations begin.
That's what will happen. As soon as the GOP takes over the House Darryl Issa will start investigations and pursue Impeachment.

Another GOP circus for the masses. A waste of time and money but it will keep the base happy and give the MSM something to talk about.

the Dems have no one to blame but themselves. They had it all, handed to them on a fricking silver platter when Obama was elected. Anthing lost since that unprecedented time is all on them.

6. I dont think Obama cares..After all he wants to be the bi-partisan President..
Yes the Democrats acting like Republicans thought they could be safe by going this route..instead they gave it all away..We dont have a real Democratic Party anymore..how long will it take for that reality to catch on..We have corporate puppets that call themselves Democrats..

4. Is Larry a betting man?
Because I'll extend my standing wager to him, too: A $10 donation to DU. Democrats will hold onto their majorities in the House and the Senate. I've only had one taker so far, but I'm willing to accommodate another four.

8. It won't be close...
If things maintain the current trajectory the house is gone...Senate at best is 51 Dems...but probably gone too...

Hope this serves as a lessen to any future Dems trying to get elected...half measures and attempts at compromise with a Republican Party dedicated to your destruction at all costs will only demoralize your own supporters...

9. Meh
I'd rather listen to http://notlarrysabato.typepad.com/">Not Larry Sabato. Ben Tribbett may only be 99.82% accurate but at least he doesn't take bribes.
