Okay. We must not be doomsayers. After all, THAT WOULD BE ALARMIST.

All alarms must be false. Just ask the GOP who don't believe in global warming.

And don't vote on Election Day. After all, both parties are identical.

Here's the story the GOP doesn't want you to think about:

MASS EXTINCTION PREDICTED BY SCIENTISTS ----

http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20100902/sc_livescience/massextinctionthreatearthonvergeofhugeresetbutton

NEW GEOLOGIC EPOCH STARTING, CAUSED BY MAN -----

http://www.livescience.com/environment/080127-new-epoch.html

So don't worry. Forget about the election. Do not be ALARMIST. We didn't get everything we wanted from Obama.

So stay home on Election Day.

Your local Republican fascist thanks you.

1. Like a vote to sustain these Dems would make a difference?
You just HAVE to be shitting me!!!!!

This has been known for several generations and it cannot be seen or heard above the pro-corporatists lobbying.

7. Democrats in the House passed climate legislation. It was only blocked in the Senate.

But forget about that. Both parties are identical.

Stay home on election day.

Stay home, smoke some weed, play Monopoly and say "Dig on it!" while the world goes to hell.

4. We could breed ourselves down to the size of a mouse
That way, we wouldn't need to consume so much food, need so much acreage to house ourselves or consume so much energy.

Then, when the planet has healed completely, we could breed ourselves back to normal size.

36. Even on DU
I do not see any sign that people are willing to make large changes in their lifestyle to adequately address climate change. Maybe many feel that if they bring their carbon footprint to 0 a conservative will just use twice as much carbon and wipe out our sacrifice.

38. Well, that's one of the cooperative dilemmas.
The usual/ordinary suburban US lifestyle takes about 6-8 earths, or earth equivalents, to support it. The more affluent middle-class could easily get to ten. With some diligence I learned to live at a sustainable level.

What I learned was that there are limits to what an individual can do, especially anything short of helping to collapse the entire world economy. This is partly because of the wars and our collective responsibility for them, and partly because any economic activity runs through organizations which are certainly not sustainable.

I don't worry though about what conservatives do. Sustainable means just that -and sooner or later it must all come due.

You can distinguish geologic time scales
from human time scales right?

And by the way... this has been the talk of the town for at least ten years. (At least amongst those of us who follow science

Worst case scenario humans (apex species) will go away in the next 1000 years. Best case, since we are tool makers we find a way to survive.

Either way... we are expecting a population crash. But not starting in November....

There are days...

14. Good thinking. Only selected Democrats should win. That way the GOP will take over.

Fascism should not be criticized. Democracy was good in its day, but it just didn't have what it took to go the distance. Let the GOP win.

Thomas Jefferson founded the Democratic Party.

But who the hell was he?

18. Thomas Jefferson, "founder of the Democratic Party" said..
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

I wasn't planning on staying home election day... but I tell you what, in the last few days I have seen many rude, nasty, and vaguely insulting posts just like this one. At least you were clever enough to not directly tell anyone to go to hell, but your post still reeks of the nasty "vote or die" bullshit I have been seeing. It's a pity I have no choice but to join rude nasty folks like you on election day. I'll be there but I'll be hating every minute of it thanks to people like you.

22. I'm with you, walldude, Ralph Nader was right to be a purist in 2000.

Like, what could possibly have gone wrong with voting for Nader in 2000?

It's not as if it started a new war or something.

and 3000 people never died on 911 because Bush sure knew how to protect America.

So yeah, let's be perfectionists, stay at home, or vote for another party.

27. Actually you are not with me...
You see, I'd like to keep our majorities so I'm not running around insulting people to try and get their vote. It's really not the way to bring people to your side. I actually believe Obama is doing a pretty shitty job, and I'm damn vocal about it.

It's really hard to vote for an administration and it's supporters when they denigrate you for "not getting your pony" and then call you an idiot because you don't want to vote for them.

If the Democrats lose this election it won't be the fault of the people who didn't vote. It will be the fault of the leaders and the people who support them that call us "fucking R******" and then piss and moan like little whiners about Sarah Palin in 2012.

23. Wow! Democracy! Like, there have been no servers hacked!

So what could POSSIBLY go wrong with letting the GOP win?!

After all, we're busy having fun voting for 3rd parties that don't win! Or staying home!

Let's all vote for Nader or his friends. After all, this is a parliamentary democracy and there is no 2-party system.

The reason there is a 2 party system in this country is that it is IN THE CONSTITUTION. The fact of having district voting automatically makes 2 parties because only the top 2 parties have a chance. You can't elect a fifth of a congressman in a district.

So here's what. Let's bitch about the lack of choices and belly ache about the 2 party system and say we'll vote when America becomes a parliamentary republic. Let's boycott 2 centuries of American history.

What could possibly go wrong with that? Let's give the GOP a clear field;

Stay home. I gotta feel good at the country's expense.

we are living in a time of mass extinction. Not prediction, but reality happening right now. imho an alarm means you have time to do something about the problem, we moved out of the realm of alarm and into our next stage of existence years ago.

Now go out and vote for a DEM and call every Repuke on their lies about the environment when you get a chance. I do.

33. Vote for Democrats or else we'll all die?
We are doomed as a species no matter what we do right now, unless we adapt and evolve (and make some real nifty tools that allow us to manipulate atoms at will and leave our solar system).

Nevertheless, I am voting for Democrats because the only other choices are corpofascist repukes and inbred Tea Baggers. Those stupid repuke fuckheads will make ME extinct if they are not removed.

There is no need to use 'end of days' fear mongering to get people to vote. Just demonstrate to undecided voters the pros and cons of one party or another. Leave fear mongering to the likes of Beck and Hannity, and then we'll make fun of them, thereby nullifying most of their efforts (and wasting GOP money).

34. It isn't politics that is destroying this planet, it is people,
The painful fact of the matter is that we simply have too many people on this planet, we have gone past the carrying capacity for this planet.

This isn't a Republican thing, this isn't a Democratic thing, it is a human thing. We are and have behaved like any other species that finds itself with an abundance of resources, our population has followed a J curve, rising sharply, past the point where the population can be sustained. We are now going to see the crash.

It isn't D, it isn't R, it is simply humans responding like the animals they are.
