5. Actually, the holiday follows Ramadan ...

... much like Easter follows lent.

It is wonderfully festive. There are feasts and gifts.

My ex-husband sent the link to me. I miss the Eid celebrations.

Most outsiders are unaware that adherents wake up early so that they can have an early morning meal together.

The evening meal is like Thanksgiving. I remember sitting next to a large family at a restaurant and they had ordered all of their food and was watching it. The last 5 minutes involved a lengthy questioning period trying to determine who had the best 'early' time so that they could start. While technically 'fasting' I would have to guess that most people consume a much larger caloric amount than they normally do.
