Gore on running: 'I haven't ruled it out'

Will Gore throw his hat into the presidential ring?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Vice President Al Gore has not "ruled out" a presidential bid in 2008, he told Time Magazine in an interview published Thursday.

But Gore also said he has "fallen out of love with politics" and that he can advance his cause in other ways than the presidency.

"If I do my job right, all the candidates will be talking about the climate crisis," Gore told Time's Eric Pooley. "And I'm not convinced the presidency is the highest and best role I could play. . . It would take a lot to disabuse me of the notion that my highest and best use is to keep building that consensus."

Yet, when pressed on the prospect of a third presidential run, Gore said, "I haven't ruled it out. But I don't think it's likely to happen."

3. He Cannot Advance His Cause
in any other ways that would be more effective than to be POTUS. He better fall back in love with politics if he does decide to run, or the press who hates him so much will throw that back in his face again and again.

...or getting tighter regs on CO2 will be an exercise in futility.

He HAS to run, and I think even HE knows it.

9. Happy Days Are Here Again!

So long sad times!,
Go 'long bad times!,
We are rid of you at last
Howdy, gay times!
Cloudy gray times,
You are now a thing
Of the past, cause:

Chorus:
Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again
Altogether shout it now!
There's no one who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again
Your cares and troubles are gone;
There'll be no more from now on
Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
Let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again!

8. Maybe he's waiting for the Nobel Prizes to be awarded......
That would be so cool to have a Nobel Peace Prize AND Oscar "winner" as a Presidential candidate. I think he would be untouchable, and he'd get the youth and environmental and entertainment vote hands down. I predict the biggest landslide in history if he runs.

A girl can dream, and I intend to continue doing so......

11. My one and only bit of advice for Gore is to SLIGHTLY change
his tone. On occasion, when explaining something that requires intellect to understand, he still slips into "I'm talking to a third-grader" tone. He can keep the slower tempo but he needs to lose the sing-songy cadence. The public might still read it (wrongly) as condescension.

Straight talk 'em, Al. Smaller vocabulary words + a more adult tone = audience pleasing perfection.

Anyway, I don't think the guy can lose.

12. I agree with you and I know he's capable.
I'm going back here a bit but it was, I think, January 2006 I heard a speech of Gore's that was on Minnesota Public Radio that was the most inspiring, goose bumpy, speech I've ever heard from him. Of course, remember he did, despite his style, win the popular vote.

22. And he will be judged on his actions. Not his words.
He'll be crucified by the Republicans, as DUers have mentioned time and again. It's better to avoid getting dirty than cleaning up dirt. Gore's monthly energy costs may or may not be bought pawned off as so-called 'carbon credits'.

http://www.badapple.biz - kinda shows what he is (and is not) doing on Apple's board (a post he took in 2003).

He'll get skewered alive on the environment alone.

He's a 'great' talker, but for action he's merely 'good'. (At least he's not 'fair' nor 'poor')

Flame me all you wish. The REALITY is, Gore's recent past will be used against him by his opposition. I am not opposing anybody, I am pointing out his past isn't as clear-cut as we want it to be.

27. The more he scares the RW, the more they will attack.

this is not news. But IMHO Al Gore is going to pick up lots and lots of Republican voters.

Bring on the skewering, bring on the right wing gas bag hot air, Al Gore is the kind of guy who can face it head on. WE MUST NOT FEAR THE ATTACKS THAT ARE SURE TO COME. The Publicans are scared and Al Gore scares them the most!

Remember too that no one is perfect. No candidate has a spotless record, or does not raise some doubt about something he/she said or did. We are NOT looking for absolute perfection. We are looking for a great person to lead and be lead by the people of america.

We can all participate in Al Gore's presidency. I think he's listening!!!!!

He would balance the ticket off nicely and possibly bring in the very important Independent vote I believe.

29. My ideal ticket is Kucinich- Feingold
Or visa versa but I realise that it wouldn't resonate well with the general public. People have to be willing to vote for a winning ticket before their own personal dream ticket. Gore- Clark would just flat out win.

34. Gore/Clark
I like a lot of the candidates, but you are absolutely right about that combo.

Clark would have eaten up Cheney in the VP debate on national security and the war. And he brought the house down at the convention!! What a speech when the General pointed to the flag and said, "That flag doesn't belong to one party. It belongs to you and me, all of us!" (...something like that..anyway, it was enough to give this 43 year old goosebumps, a lump of pride in the throat, and a tear in the eye.)

As it's turned out, Wes was right about everything.
