AP/Fox reports Ron Paul claims 9/11 attacks occurred because "we've been bombing Iraq for 10 years."

<snip>

But that success may have been marred in the South Carolina debate, where Paul said that Islamic terrorists targeted the U.S. on 9/11 and since then because "we've been bombing Iraq for 10 years."

The retort from Giuliani, New York City mayor at the time of the attacks, received applause.

Hmm... that's not exactly what he said.

<snip>

The highlight of the debate was Ron Paul making the mistake of trying to point out that that one of the reasons why Islamic fundamentalists hate the U.S. might have something to do with our foreign policy in the Middle East. "They attack us because we've been over there. We've been bombing Iraq for 10 years. ... We've been in the Middle East. Right now, we're building an embassy in Iraq that is bigger than the Vatican. We're building 14 permanent bases. What would we say here if China was doing this in our country or in the Gulf of Mexico? We would be objecting," Paul said.

1. Yesterday John Gibson tried to hang the Truth Movement
around Ron Paul's Neck. You know the group who believe
the government caused 9/11.

Fox can never stop when they are ahead. Tobe fair they
did a fine job of staging and conducting the debate.
I believe most people were impressed

Now they have to Mess up their good impression and Remind
us why we do not want our Candidates there.

They should be smart enough to know that Ron Paul is
not going to win. They should be big enough to stay
out of the WH Attack. on Paul. This is why they
are not trusted. Good enough entertainers but you
cannot trust their information.

Free Speech????

The GOP is too frightened to permit a lone voice speak.

4. Tweety Called This Rudy's Shining Moment
when he went after Paul for stating the FACTS. I must have been watching a different debate than the puke pundits.

7. Sad, but he is right.
If you watched the debate, the people wildy cheered when he said this. I think Rudy was taking a cheap shot by saying this, because what Paul said is true.

2. Actually, we've been bombing Iraq for 17 years.
But Paul's point is cogent and honest. Guiliani's rebuttal was pure BS from a guy who has personally profited mightily from his undeserved reputation and fabricated myth of why we were attacked on 9/11. Sad to see the audience willingly buy into the delusion that permeates this part of our country.

3. As I understand it
Bin Laden's grievances were -

the sanctions against Iraq (including I would guess the rountine bombings)
US troops in Saudi Arabia
Israeli occupation of Palestine

However, Mohammed Atta and his crew could never have achieved their spectactular results without Bushco (in)actions that stood down America's defenses and financing from Bushco allies.

6. Bin Laden's Grievances or WHY THEY HATE US
In addition to previous thread these tell the story

Basic Distrust and belief that we have ulterior motives
regarding their oil.

Perception that we support and prop up what they call
Despot Leaders such as Royal Family, Saudi Arabia, King
of Jordan, President of Egypt. The "street" wants them
overthrown and perceive us as their protectors, so to speak..

Perception that we are unfair to Arabs in our unconditional
support of Israel.

5. Don't the debate poll results show Paul leading Ghouliani?
That implies there are Repugs who don't buy BushCo's simplistic "They hate us for our freedoms" and are actually thinking more deeply about the "why" like Paul is.

10. Anybody expect Fox news to actually report something accurately?
I mean, nearly everyone who heard Kerry's attempt at humor (more than the absolute minimum that righties would air to condemn JK) got the reference ... except for the few that are actively destroying brain cells in the quest to deify Bush ...

12. Well they would never waste an opportunity to say "Iraq was behind 911"
Ron Paul's position is consistently isolationist which appeals to old school conservatives
