Tear-jerking story, but tell me what you think.....
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/09/06/bc-rightsremoved.html

Very sad, and touching to see this man fight so hard to be with his wife. However, I somehow doubt that hospital staff were so petty they went to all this trouble because he complained of her care. The "He needs to learn to pay his bills" craic is absolutely inexcusable and if that were me listening to someone saying that about my elderly father I would have belted them one in the kisser.

Anyway, does it sound like this man has been picked on by the government? Or do you think that he may not be fit to take care of his wife?

I'm kind of torn.

1. I am not torn on this
Have been around nursing homes enough to see what is going on here. They do not like "troublemakers." Usually when someone makes complaints as this man did, they will release the patient to go home to get rid of them. When they will eventually be readmitted, they will be "full" and the person will be sent to another facility. In this case the woman was too disabled so they did the next best thing - took control of his money and legal rights.
Nursing homes try to get power of attorney when they can.

I am also not inclined to believe diagnosis of dementia that happens after going into one of these places. Often it is the drugs they give them to keep them calm. You should see what they give people for sleeping pills - Vicodin.

This is a horrendous story. At least he got her into a better place but when the money is gone she probably has to go where they send her.
