Obama camp has "frozen out" Fox News

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2007/01/obama.html

Obama's Grudge Factor

These are chilly days on Capitol Hill ... and on the campaign trail for Fox News journalists -- at least when they're anywhere near Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

Sources tell The Sleuth that the Obama camp has "frozen out" Fox News reporters and producers in the wake of the network's major screw-up in running with the erroneous Obama-the-jihadist story reported by Insight magazine.

"I'm still in the freezer," one Fox journalist said, noting that the people at Fox "suffering the most did nothing wrong." (It was "Fox and Friends" host Steve Doocy who aired the Insight magazine piece, which reported that operatives connected to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) found out that Obama, as a child, was educated at a Muslim madrassah in Indonesia.)

...

One source familiar with the dynamic between Fox and Obama, who asked not to be named, said Obama and his staff are in for a rude awakening if they think they can write off Fox News. If a candidate is serious about running for president, he or she is going to need a network like Fox to reach out to all those voters in the red and purple states, the source said.

Given that Fox "News" is simply a propaganda machine for the Republican Party, why would any Democratic candidate open themselves up to be skewered on it? Would a Democratic candidate appear on a network called "GOP TV"?

10. Democrats can't win on Pox News
because even if the host is respectful or at least civil and the interview goes well, they will cherrypick comments and footage to make the Democrat look like a fool or a blusterer.

Pox News is 100% fascist propaganda, 100% of the time. All Democrats need to avoid it like the plague that it is.

They have the other 23+ hours when he ISN'T on to spin what was said to make themselves look better.

FOX SHOULD be FROZEN OUT. I think Obama has a brilliant idea going. And if other stations ask the candidates WHY they are being shut out - take the opportunity to tell people exactly what FOX is, A Corporation that is nothing more than a venue for the WH, and a smear machine for anyone who doesn't *toe the line*.

11. Good, why give them any legitimacy - besides, their statement is
false, he doesn't need to reach potential voters through the rabid right on their 'news' channel - they wouldn't vote for a Dem (a black one at that) if hell froze over. He's not missing a thing.

If the networks are so worried about "access" that they were willing to overlook all Shrub's lies for 6 years, then more Dems need to cut off their access

The folks who watch that channel aren't likely to vote for Obama anyway. So, what would be the point in him giving Faux a daily or weekly target to smear on air.

Let Faux cover Obama by proxy. And, anyone who is interested in seeing real overage of Obama can tune in to the other stations and maybe get some real news in the process.

that is, double-check the story.

It's not as if you had to "go as far" as CNN did and send a correspondent--the school (once you'd bothered to find out its name) was not only still in existence, but only a phone call away. You ran with the story because it was an opportunity to hurt Obama and liberals in general, and you have yet to apologize, to my knowledge. I guess Obama has decided that he can lose without you.

I hate to say it, but this is an amateur's mistake. Obama is pissed and has every right to be. But he needs to take his complaint to the source. Don't freeze out Fox News, but rather go right onto Fox News and demand an apology right in their faces. Not appearing on Fox News won't hurt him in the primary season among most Democrats, but he's passing up a chance to establish himself as THE anti-Fox candidate.

59. Because they're lying dumbasses, that's why they haven't apologized.
I'm saying that this fumbled smear is like a big gift to Obama. He could bury every doubt about how ready he is to be president by hammering the crap out of Fox News while on Fox News. He could ride this train all the way to Denver if he'd just carpe this diem right. Instead he's being high minded and acting above the game. The #1 lesson of Clinton's elections is that you are NEVER above the game. If he keeps his distance from Fox, he'll never engage them and thus he'll never get a grip on the next smear against him--and there will be a next smear; bank on it.

66. This will have zero impact on his ability to compete in the primaries
There are two types of Democrats who watch FOX News with any regularity:

1. Outrage addicts -- people who watch FOX News so they can get on places like DU and post "OMG!!!111 Can you believe what Sean Hannity just said!!!11"

2. Zell Miller

Obama's absence on the network will have no influence on their voting patterns.

28. Why would this be a problem for Fox?
With their journalistic standards and the integrity of their reporters they don't need access to a candidate or anything resembling facts or research to write a story. Obama is on the list of candidates to fuck with at faux. Not having access to him won't stop faux from pursuing their mission.

It would be like suggesting that limbaugh would need some time with Bill Clinton to get the story straight on him.

64. Just wondering
Was "Fox and Friends" always this biased. I know it is a silly question and the answer probably is yes, but they seem to be making a lot more headlines these days for stupid stuff like bashing Obama.

68. yes
i've been watching them off and on for about 4 years, and while they're nothing like sean hannity or john gibson, they've always kept their entertainment peppered with pro-neocon propaganda

65. Until there's an on-air apology and retraction from "Fox & Friends"
Things should stay chilly for the whole Fox Network.

And it's about time.

70. Prediction. A funny situation on air will be the official unfreeze.
This will be set up by Obama and his staff with Fox news and they will use the light-hearted guffaws about it be the end of it.

It will probably be a funny morning show thing that he does, some-lame ass thing like taken a frozen cake to them and then hilarity will ensue.

God....

72. They Think Too Highly Of Themselves At Faux
"One source familiar with the dynamic between Fox and Obama, who asked not to be named, said Obama and his staff are in for a rude awakening if they think they can write off Fox News. If a candidate is serious about running for president, he or she is going to need a network like Fox to reach out to all those voters in the red and purple states, the source said."

Do they actually do the math around their ratings? The drones who watch that station are a miniscule portion of the population who wouldn't vote for a Dem if the Repub candidate was Satan.

Faux is a blip on the radar screen.
