Gulf Coast oil disaster an exercise in secrecy and deception
Opinion: Gulf Coast oil disaster an exercise in secrecy and deception

Posted Sep 7, 2010 by ■ Bill Lindner

The fallacies about the Gulf Coast oil disaster being over are nothing but propaganda being used to mislead an unsuspecting public. People are dying to keep keep the true magnitude of the disaster covered up and the crisis is far from over

BP and the U.S. Government, aided by the media's yellow journalism, are still lying about the magnitude of the Gulf Coast oil disaster, still trying to cover it up, and still trying to hide the fact that toxic dispersants -- including the more toxic Corexit 9527, that both BP and Nalco claimed to quit using a few months ago -- are being used secretly at night to hide evidence of the oil. As usual, secrecy is being used to censor embarrassment and accountability.
Empty 250 to 500 gallon barrels of Corexit 9527 were discovered, and photographed, all over Dauphin Island, Alabama. Corexit 9527 is more carcinogenic than Corexit 9500 but BP is still using it to try and make the oil disappear, despite the hazards to all Gulf Coast inhabitants, and despite being told by the EPA to stop. The use of Corexit to 'disperse' the oil has probably made the disaster worse than it would have been.

The cover up has been aided by the Federal Government -- primarily the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Coast Guard. Gulf Coast residents, and the rest of the world, are still being lied to and purposely mislead. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) aren't thoroughly testing seafood from areas of the spill for dangerous chemicals either. As with all the other Government cover ups, many will die due to their illicit actions and the vast majority of those involved in the cover up will receive total impunity for their criminal actions. The Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health (CTEH) is also being paid by BP to keep the spill covered up.

Government 'regulation' of companies such as BP has become nothing but a criminal joke. Millions of people are going to pay the price because 'regulators' were in BP's pocket, having been bought and paid for, but few, if any, of these 'regulators' will be charged with anything. Total impunity for destroying millions of lives has become the norm in today's political spectrum and Justice -- in addition to being highly politicized -- has become a dual-edged sword that only swings one way.

Now that Congress has threatened to stop allowing new drilling, BP has resorted to blackmail, claiming that curbing drilling would imperil payouts to victims of the disaster. In a law abiding society, the government would seize the company and make them pay all the damages, but since our leaders are owned by BP and other large corporations, that's not going to happen. Citizens will suffer, but the Government's puppeteers will continue thriving.
