More House Dems balking at ending Bush tax cuts for rich (naming names)

More House Dems balking at ending Bush tax cuts for rich (naming names)
Even as President Obama is mounting a strong stand in favor of letting the Bush tax cuts for the rich expire, and even as he's signaling that it will be a major campaign issue, more and more vulnerable House Dems are bolting in the other direction.

Here's a quick rundown of Dems in tough races who are coming out against ending the tax cuts for the rich:

* Rep Jim Himes of Conneticut says he supports a termporary extension, because earning $250,000 annually "does not make you really rich."

* Rep Bobby Bright of Alabama came out against ending the tax cuts, because "a vast majority of my constituents ... don't believe in tax increases on anybody at this point in time."

* Rep Ron Klein of Florida wants a one year extension of the tax cuts, including those for the rich, because "right now, our top economic priority has to be job creation."

* Rep Gerry Connolly of Virginia says the tax cuts should remain because the recovery remains "fragile."

* Rep Gary Peters of Michigan wants the cuts to continue lest we "jeopardize economic recovery."

* Rep Harry Mitchell of Arizona says he "strongly" opposes letting the tax cuts lapse because "we need to encourage investment, not discourage it."

5. 10 years of temporary is not enough?
The tax cuts were a temporary 10-year cut. 10 years is not enough? The only reason they passed in the first place is because they had a 10-year expiration. Now we can see, that was a sham, too.

Look at all the jobs that have been created, the factories opened and how those cuts have trickled, neigh, FLOODED down to the workaday American virtually eliminating unemployment, homelessness, and poverty.

First of all, don't these idiots realize that it's not anyone whose paycheck totals $250,000/yr, it's TAXABLE INCOME! If you have taxable income of $250,000 or more, buddy, you're making some serious sheckels!

Most people don't realize that, so it's the duty of each Rep & Sen to explain it to their constituents!

BTW, to the dubm "F" who says we need to encourage investment,---what te hell do you THINK higher taxes actuall do? THEY ENOURAGE INVESTMENT! Business people would rather invest in their business than pay the higher taxes and that means expansion & more jobs!

The freakshow called the "liberal media" just accepts this whole cut taxes to create jobs nonsense, which is totally counterinuitive AND does not bare out in relation to job growth and the top tax rate ... The more the rate is cut, the worse job growth is for the very reason you note - the less the people with larger sums of money have to worry about taxation, the more the money just floats to the top and does not cycle through the economy at large ... The more they worry about taxes, the more they ACTUALLY INVEST it into BUSINESS to WRITE IT OFF ...

If they had the tax cuts all this time why didn't they create jobs with them? So what makes them willing to create jobs if the cuts don't expire. I guess out of the goodness of their hearts they will not invest the money but will spend it on things made in America thus creating jobs.

24. Guys like Krugman have been pointing out for years -- the answer is always "tax cuts"
When we were running a surplus, the answer was "tax cuts!"

Now that we're running a huge deficit, the answer is "tax cuts!"

When the economy was booming, the Rx was "tax cuts!"

Now that we're in our Great Recession, the answer is (wait for it) "tax cuts!"

These people don't have an economic model, they've got a jones for tax cuts that they'll rationalize with whatever is laying around. And it appears that "these people" includes plenty of Dems.
