WA State .....Brown executed for 1991 rape........

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — Convicted killer Cal Coburn Brown was executed early Friday by lethal injection for the rape, torture and murder of a Seattle-area woman, after delivering a statement forgiving the victim's family for hating him but complaining he was treated unfairly by the legal system.

Brown, 52, died at 12:56 a.m. PDT, after a four-member team injected a lethal

1. Am I the only person who found this part funny?
Brown protested sentencing disparities, saying that criminals who had killed many more people, such as Green River killer Gary Ridgway, were serving life sentences while he received a death sentence.

"I only killed one victim," he said. "I cannot really see that there is true justice. Hopefully, sometime in the future that gets straightened out."

"C'mon judge, it's not like I killed somebody. Well, okay I raped, tortured and killed somebody, but I got caught before I could do it again!"

3. I don't know about funny
I'm not familiar with the circumstances of Mr. Brown's particular crime, but for him to take the death penalty while the Green River Killer Gary Ridgway, whose criminal career spanned a number of years and terrorized a very large community, is not sentenced to death defies anything approximating logic in the administration of the death penalty. The death penalty seems to be applied in a highly capricious manner.

4. I think a murder/torture/rape crime pretty much clears any
bar that's ever been established for capital punishment. Did the Green River guy deserve death too? Very possibly, but no two juries are the same.

10. The suffering of his victim and her family is tragic.

But, this monster's self-pity is a form of dark humor and irony.

17. The Green River killer
didn't deal with a jury. He was pretty damned clever, escaping detection for many, many years, and they nearly didn't catch him at all. He traded information on the whereabouts of his victims in exchange for life without parole.

That's the way the 'justice' system works, but still, I hope he gets what Jeffrey Dahmer got.

13. Well there is a reason for that
Many of the crimes would be left unsolved due to lack of evidence if they seeked the DP for a few murders. In a deal he agreed to admit responsibility for the rest of the crimes and he would be spared. If you think DP is a worse punishment than life in prison than the DP benefits serial killers who cover their tracks well on many of their crimes. They can testify to killing several other people and be spared.

I think you made a good point. The DP isn't applied fairly and probably never will.

9. Not "haha" funny, but ridiculous funny. As if there should be a quota of women you rape and murder
before you are eligible for execution.

Rot in hell is my feeling, but I'm not against the death penalty.

7. Odd headline...
...because Brown wasn't executed for rape, but for murdering the victim.

12. Well, to be fair it was kind of the grand slam of
crimes--kidnap, rape, torture, murder.

18. Headline was probably written by someone
who is anti-DP, and considers rape a 'minor' crime.

15. should have been put down in 1991...what a complete waste of money and resources on this waste of
carbon.

all that money and resources should have been spent on kids in need to help them become model citizens.
