DADT: We fail when we depend on one judge (or 5) to defend our liberties
Because the opposition see the weakness and proceed to stack the judiciary with like minded jurists. We need a political solution by a majority in Congress and one aggressively defended by a President. A majority in America support allowing gays to serve openly for their country. It's only cowards in our political system that undermine a political solution and seek "compromise".
Sometimes we do depend on one or a few judges to defend our liberties. In fact some of our most important steps forward depended on exactly that. So I don't think it means we've failed.
I just hope this decision puts an end to discrimination against gays in the military.
