Texas is HOT — and we’re not talking chiles or temps
Lone Star cities captured seven of the top 15 spots for sex in Men's Health magazine's list

HOUSTON CHRONICLE

<snip>

In a racy press release trumpeting "America's hotbeds of sex," Austin came in No. 1 and was dubbed the "capital of copulation."

Dallas — Dallas? — came in No. 2.; Arlington was No. 7; Houston, No. 10; Lubbock, No. 11; Fort Worth, No. 12; and San Antonio, No. 15.

No other state scored as well. The magazine ranked the 100 cities by checking condom sales, birth rates, sex toy sales and rates of sexually transmitted diseases as determined by state health departments.

On this list, folks in Portland, Maine, came in dead last; Burlington, Vt., was No. 99; and Yonkers, N.Y., was No. 98. Matt Marion, deputy editor of Men's Health, described the list as informative and accurate.

1. well...considering most Red men couldn't give a sh#t about their woman's ..."outcome"
...I'd say the large amount of "sex toys" are hidden in a back room for use when daddy isn't home.
The sexuallly-transmitted diseases....unfortunately,I have literally seen thousands in my 25 years as a nurse here.
They didn't mention the teaching of birth control in high school....we teach abstinence only. That's why we have one of the highest teenage rates of pregnancy as well.

definately NOT blue.... one of CA's reddest parts.

I used to joke that we should break up CA into 3 states...people would guess North, South and Central I would say No, no : Northern, Southern and Bakersfield/Fresno

5. I laughed at that, too
I would say that Austin is the bluest city in Texas - I'd at least label it Purple. Durham is one of the bluest cities in North Carolina. I wonder who came up with those Red/Blue labels? If they went strictly by the last Presidential election, then both Durham and Charlotte should be labeled Blue!

7. That is the problem with this list
Cities can vary GREATLY from the state as a whole. Unless this is broken out by voting trends of the individual cities, the list is meaningless tripe.

4. Austin is anything but red.

Just because we get stuck with the clowns elected from all over the state here doesn't make us red.

6. Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and even Houston are NOT red
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 07:32 AM by Gman
all four voted for Obama in 08. I think even Ft. Worth did, but I forget now. Texas may be red but these four are definitely not red.

10. Dallas County, and the city of Dallas in particular voted for Obama in 08
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 08:29 AM by Gman
that makes them blue. I don't know about Denver. I thought Ft. Worth voted Obama too, but I don't remember off hand.

11. it seemed to me all the major cities in texas went blue. but wasnt sure. denver is absolutely blue
it is the smaller areas and communities that go red. also co springs with influx of christian coalition and military.

13. More than anything else, it's because of minorities, and hispanics in particular
that live within the cities. OTOH, there's nothing bluer than the suburbs of Dallas where you are what you drive.

16. The suburbs and areas around Dallas are as red as they come
The city of Dallas and Dallas County are legally blue because they voted Obama in 08. Like I said in another post on this thread, Dallas is likely blue because of Hispanics, Blacks and other minorities that live within the city limits and vote for Democrats. The suburbs and outlying areas are red because they're predominantly white folks who fled or otherwise consciously stay away from living near those Hispanics, Blacks and other minority areas. If you live up there you know what I mean. Like I said, up there, you are what you drive.

12. Durham is one of the bluest cities in NC
Only Chapel Hill and Carrboro could beat Durham in the liberal sweepstakes.

Charlotte is sorta red.

The same could be said for Austin and the rest of TX.

I think what it really means is that these cities are some of the most liberal in their states.
