Dems to voters: You may hate us, but GOP is worse

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer Charles Babington, Associated Press Writer – 31 mins ago

WASHINGTON – With just six weeks to avoid a possible election catastrophe, Democrats are trying to limit the damage with a closing argument that's more plea than platform: We know you voters are furious with us, but just let us explain why the Republicans would be worse.

The strategy requires an autumn influx of voters willing to view the election as a choice between two imperfect parties — and imperfect candidates on each ballot line — rather than as a chance to slap the Washington establishment that the public seems to dislike so deeply.

But the Democrats admit the Republicans have a big emotional advantage with voters who are fed up with high unemployment, soaring deficits and what many see as an arrogant Congress and administration that rammed a revolutionary health care plan down their throats.

2. I never made the lesser of evils arguement.
But it is a true argument when you realize all people are flawed.

3. Wouldn't it be nice if politicians gave us a reason to vote FOR them, not just AGAINST the other...

4. It Could Be Worse
is a heck of a campaign slogan

And saying the Democrats "rammed" health care down people's throats is just so much right wing spin. The Democrats listened to people who are frustrated by rising costs, inability to find coverage and practices of insurance companies that were unfair and immoral and put in place a plan to address some of the worst abuses.

5. Good argument, at this point
Given that the R's have pretty much had their way with the country for decades, what else can the D's argue?

"Give us a chance, we won't be as bad as them."

And there is a great deal of truth in that message, eh?

9. We have to stop taking their actions personal governing is incredibly hard and they'll never please

everyone. Considering the amount of entrenched power in DC Pres. Obama has moved mountains and no-one can say otherwise. It will be far more personal if the GOP regain power and remind us how horrific the Bush years were and double down. This administration is repairing things every day, there are 2 options repair or dismantle eom.

11. If you believe Dems are "hitting you," you are in for a very, very rude awakening on November 3rd.
Your reaction to the following year will be a sight to behold.

10. Believe it or not, 80%+ of Democrats approve of Obama and his bills. It is the independents that are
turning against the Democrats.

12. Fuck the potential election catastrophe.
Time to draw a line in the sand.

The dem leadership needs to be sent a strong message. I personally hope the dems lose the house and the senate, so that they can see just what they have missed, when they ignore the people who put them in power, and I am talking about us, the liberals who have carried their water for fucking generations. I hope they choke on this election.

13. They will simply move to the right to make up for lost votes. It is much easier to convince
Edited on Sat Sep-18-10 04:27 AM by BzaDem
a rational independent, than it is to convince an irrational "progressive" that flirts with enabling Republicans. Furthermore, an independent going from R to D is a net benefit of +2 for the Democrat, while a Democrat switching from an irrelevant 3rd party to a Dem is +1. So they get twice as much out of moving towards the right to make up for lost Republican-enabling "progressives," than they do when the move to the left to appease them.

Want to punish Democrats even more? They'll just move further to the right. They'll receive a message all right -- EXACTLY the opposite of the message you want to send. While I don't hope for the party to move to the right, if it does, you will get EXACTLY what you deserve, and nothing less.

15. The high unemployment is because of BUSH & the republicans....
Edited on Sat Sep-18-10 05:25 AM by Tx4obama
we democrats need to get the correct message out to the American people.
It sucks that the republicans left THE HUGE MESS for Obama to clean up and then on top of it they blame Obama for the BS that they caused.

The media needs to STOP staying that the bad economy and the high unemployment is Obama fault when it is NOT.

YES, THE DEMOCRATS ARE LESS EVIL THAN THE REPUBLICANS!
