DCCC gives two new candidates Red to Blue status

Targeting key battleground districts in the wake of last week's primaries, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added two candidates to its Red to Blue program.

According to announcements that will be released Monday, Ann McLane Kuster, of New Hampshire's Second District, and Bill Keating, of Massachusetts' 10th, will be the beneficiaries of additional "financial, communications, grassroots, and strategic support" that the program offers.

Kuster, an attorney and progressive favorite, soundly defeated primary challenger Katrina Swett last Tuesday and will face former Rep. Charlie Bass (R) in a contest to replace Senate candidate, Rep. Paul Hodes (D).

In the race to fill the retiring Rep. Bill Delahunt's (D) open seat, Norfolk District Attorney Keating will square off against state Rep. Jeff Perry (R) in what is expected to be among the most competitive House races in the deep-blue Bay State. Even before the Red to Blue announcement, the DCCC has already reserved television time there.

Both have "run strong a campaign and built a lot of early excitement from voters across the political spectrum. Red to Blue will give the financial and structural edge to remain on the road to victory in November," Van Hollen said. "We look forward to giving (them) the extra boost (they) need to win."
