Judge contradicts Rush: 'I'm not Davy Crockett'

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bizarre/content/judge-contradicts-rush-im-not-davy-crockett

Comments by Rush Limbaugh have caused the 70-year-old U.S. judge presiding over the legal challenge to health care reform to issue an unusual statement, pnj.com of Panama City reports.

“I’ve never killed a bear, and I’m not Davy Crockett,” said Roger Vinson.

Limbaugh called Vinson an avid hunter who once had bear heads mounted in the court room to intimidate defendants. Vinson's assistant said the judge was amused by Limbaugh’s comments, which apparently came from a hoax entry on Wikipedia.

The judge does have an outdoorsy side. He is president of the American Camellia Society and a longtime member of the Pensacola Camellia Club.

:spank:

1. Let us get a grip here. Davy Crockett never killed a bear physically.
He just grinned one to death.

Geeze, people.

4. I thought it was a wildcat he grinned to death.
And it was Dan'l Boone who kilt a bar with his knife.

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
The greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so's he knew ev'ry tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three
Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier

I still have my official Davy Crockett coonskin cap from my childhood in the 1950s, and I have the official Davy Crockett song committed permanently in my memory.

Your claim is blasphemous!

6. I watched the old Crockett tapes to tatters when I was kid.
Now that song will be stuck in my head all day.

Somewhere, I have a photo of me in that coonskin hat, but it's in a box somewhere, and I'm not going to dig for it.

Kids that didn't grow up with that TV show know nothing of Davy Crockett.

8. It was one of my dad's favorite when he was a kid.
There's probably a pic with him in coonskin hat somewhere too.

He bought the Disney tapes for me when I was little. Loved them, one of things that inspired my love of history.

10. You too huh?
Soooo did you also have a red Superman cape also? I did. My grandmother made it out of an old table cloth. :)

11. Nope. Wasn't a Superman fan. My parents forbade us from comic
books, so I didn't get the Superman virus. I did watch the TV show sometimes, though. Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird. It's a plane. No....it's SUPERMAN! I watched a couple of episodes recently. Pretty primitive.

12. LOL Yep we didn't know how bad we had it in the pre-CGI era....
Kids actually had to have an imagination. Back to Davy Crockett originated as a "short" on The Wonderful World Of Disney". That was our Sunday night fare all of my young life and showed Disney just how easily they could manipulate young minds.

9. My wife and I stayed in Fess Parker's hotel in Santa Barbara
Edited on Mon Sep-20-10 01:38 PM by MineralMan
for our anniversary about 15 years ago, just before Christmas. We were having a cocktail in the bar, and in walked Fess Parker himself. He was stopping at bar tables and chatting, so I told him that the show was the highlight of my life as a 10 year old boy. He seemed pleased, bought us a bottle of Fess Parker Chardonnay and picked our dinner tab. A hero even then!

16. Obviously, you were only a dabbler
I had the cap AND the official fringed "buckskin" shirt with the pic of Fess as Davy on it. And for a while, I proudly wore that getup EVERYWHERE. :)

2. I am personally scared to death of Camelias. Seeing one in a courtroom would definitely intimidate
me.

Seems like a pretty tough group to be affiliated with...maybe Rush should watch it!
