KY-SEN: Another Positive Poll
KY-SEN: Another Positive Poll

Sat Sep 25, 2010 at 08:45:28 PM PDT

I just saw a quick news item on the evening news.

A significant development tonight in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race. Three weeks after Republican Rand Paul claimed a 15-point lead in the WHAS-11/Courier-Journal Bluegrass Poll, Democrat Jack Conway has closed the gap now, and the race is now a statistical dead heat. The poll of likely voters has Paul at 49% and Conway at 47%, within the survey's theoretical margin of sampling error. Conway is up 7 points, Paul is down 6 compared to an identical poll just three weeks ago. It is the first time Conway has been polled above 45% in our poll, and the first time Paul has polled below 51%.

The Bluegrass Poll was conducted by SurveyUSA. According to the on-screen graphics, 4% were undecided. The margin of error was +/- 4%.

This is awesome news. Conway's made up 13 points in just 3 weeks. Let's keep this momentum going!

2. I think Rand shot himself in the foot
by being completely insane and truly out of touch with everyone except the tea baggers, who no matter what the news wants you to think are only a small minority of the population.

5. Well of course, but the polls have only begun to tighten since he has begun
to talk about cutting medicare. This poll had him leading by 15 points two weeks ago or so.

6. Never believe the polls
Polls can be made to say anything who ever the poller is wants it to say. So unless there are several polls, from different places saying the same thing, you can not believe it.

4. People are starting to pay attention
as they do after Labor Day. And, they're starting to say, "Oh shit! Look at the nuts that are about to take office!"

11. Conway can pull this one out. He just needs to up his recognition.
There's still about 15-20% of KY voters who aren't that familiar with him. If he can get his recognition up, I think he may pull slightly ahead before election day.
