Tom White realizes his aggressive style in the Nebraska Legislature may have created some “resentments” among his colleagues, but the tough-talking trial attorney with a combative style makes no apologies.

Indeed, he makes it clear he relishes a fight.

“If you block what needs to be done, then I'm going to do my best to try to roll over you,” said White, wearing his passion on rolled-up sleeves, his eyes beneath curly black hair opening wide when he makes a point.

A Democrat, White is running against Republican U.S. Rep. Lee Terry to represent the Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District. His bid comes near the end of a four-year term in the Legislature, where White earned a reputation as a man who likes a good brawl.

Several of his legislative colleagues said White's combative style made it difficult to work with him, while his supporters in the Legislature say he has been unfairly criticized for his tenacity.

He once shouted at fellow Democratic State Sen. Gwen Howard of Omaha during floor debate on an issue involving children, raising eyebrows among his colleagues.
