Sen. George Lemieux (R) Florida is on local television right now complaining about cuts to the NASA
budget.

I thought Republicans wanted to cut spending. If they can't even bring themselves to cut the NASA Budget what do they want to cut.

It's not as if outer space is going anywhere.

4. Cut the wars. Cut the Pentagon. Cut spies.
But NEVER cut scientific research.

6. I'm not for cutting scientfic research
Edited on Sun Oct-03-10 09:57 PM by Tony_FLADEM
But in the short term I rather cut the NASA budget than something that is a more immediate need. For example, unemployment compensation.

That isn't really the point though. The Republicans talk about cutting spending and you have a Republican Senator from Florida complaining when a program he supports is being cut.

8. Then don't cut NASA.
Because that IS scientific research.

9. It can be cut in the short term if you are attempting to close a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit
until the economy recovers and replenish those cuts later on.

If I had to make a choice, I rather spend the money on a more immediate need where you have 25 million people unemployed. Also the private sector can make up the difference. That seems to be Obama's position not just mine.

10. And don't do 'short term' thinking either.
It's what killed every empire before you.

11. Just to Make Sure...
I hope everyone knows that any cuts to NASA would hardly be noticed on that 1.3 trillion $ deficit... Even completely eliminating the entire agency gets you less than 2% of that deficit.

12. Yet he just singlehandedly blocked a Senate proposal to extend unemployment benefits to 2 million
'99ers', because the measure was 'not paid for'.

See http://www.sunshinestatenews.com/story/lemieux-blocks-extension-unemployment-benefits

Looks like he's not going out with a whimper--and his replacement likely will be even worse (Rubio)
