Jimmy Carter helps build DC homes after illness

– 1 hr 26 mins ago
WASHINGTON – Former President Jimmy Carter is helping build and rehabilitate homes in Washington just days after a viral infection landed him in an Ohio hospital.

Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter were out with Habitat for Humanity volunteers Monday hammering nails and hoisting new home frames into place.

Carter told CBS's "The Early Show" on Monday morning that he feels fine after his time in the hospital last week and has "been out working ever since."

5. I have always admired Jimmy Carter for things like this
While most former presidents go around charging six-digit fees for speaking engagements, he's always out helping the needy and more likely to make a donation rather than charge a fee to speak at a school.

15. Best ex president ever.
And certainly a visionary who was ahead of his time. No wonder the corporate overlords had to replace him with Reagan.

17. Wow, I didn't realize he was still doing that physical work. Although
when I saw him on TDS/CR (I can never remember on which show I've seen what guests), he looked terrific! Twenty years younger than his age.

23. What a smile! I love that guy! We support our local Habitat Re-Store - check it out in your area!
The Habitat ReStores are great places to buy donated building equipment! We get stuff from Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Sears, etc, at great prices! Check them out - they help to build the Habitat homes:

http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.aspx?tgs=MTAvNC8yMDEwIDEwOjE4OjU5IFBN

Habitat’s ReStore resale outlets sell reusable and surplus building materials to the public
While every ReStore is a little different, most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances.

ReStores accept donated goods which are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price. The proceeds help local Habitat affiliates fund the construction of Habitat homes within their communities.

Promoting reuse and recycling
ReStores provide an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat’s community improvement work.

Find a ReStore near you or donate materials
To shop, follow the links below to find a ReStore near you. To donate materials, please contact your local ReStore by following the links at the site! They are in Canada too!

makes me think of the contrast with sorry shit heaps like RayGun and Smirky.

They are diametrically opposed. Jimmy is a national treasure.

25. Hammerin nails without eye protection's a big no-no, Mr. President
Every now and then, yer gonna slip and one of those suckers will fly back at ya. Do it enough, and ya'll remember a few nails flying past yer face. And, yes, people do regularly get a nail in the eye

Love ya, Mr. President. Please put on goggles
