EDITORIAL: Election offers clear choice

Sharron Angle for U.S. Senate

The 27-year Washington veteran lost his first U.S. Senate race in 1974 by a mere 600 votes. In 1998, he survived a challenge from John Ensign, prevailing by 428 votes.

So here he is again, locked in a tight battle, this time against Sharron Angle, a bit player on the Nevada political scene until she pulled off a surprise in June's Republican primary.

Six years ago, 12 years ago, even 18 years ago, a man of Sen. Reid's stature might have cruised to victory against such a rookie opponent.

3. There's also the Sun, which is mainly on-line, and which has a daily section inside the
LVRJ...they'll go for Reid.

2. They'll make more money...
...in their dying industry, with the GOP in control.

Editorial boards bring in both candidates, interview them, and then endorse one of them -- but not before looking at the Q2 financial statement.

7. Yeah, but I'm surrounded by R's at work and they all think Angle is insane...
...the LVRJ has a vendetta against Reid.

5. Actually, mine has yours beat
Instead of endorsements, they have a "Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down" list every Sunday. If they did go back to doing real editorials, and if they were in NV, they'd no doubt endorse Angle, too. Just like they endorsed DeMented, Sanford, Graham, Wilson, and every other right-wing lunatic that ran for office in this hellhole state.

8. Perhaps they should just stop trying to be a newspaper and go into suing others full time.

10. They were though among the small number of papers that endorsed McCain in the general
In the primary, there endorsement of Obama in the primary is an extremely nasty attack on Clinton.

In addition, they supported Bush in 2004 (http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/13832767.html) and Bush in 2000.

11. The Plain Freeper endorsed Kasich and Portman.
Kasich is the same old Wall-Street slash/debt'n'waste RepubliCON that will send this state back to the days of Bob Taft, should he get past Strickland.

Portman is only fortunate that he's running against unpopular Lee Fisher.

12. Danger, Will Robinson, danger!
The LVRJ is the paper that is in cahoots with Righthaven, a shady outfit that buys up copyrights to their articles, then files bogus lawsuits against any websites that quote them -- including DU.
