WaPo Author FINALLY Corrects Inaccurate O'Keefe/ACORN 'Pimp' Misreport
Though year-old misreport still stands
ALSO: 'Yahoo! News' issues correction as well...

It took nearly a week of The BRAD BLOG bitching, moaning, emailing, complaining and tweeting to the Washington Post, its ombudsman and, of course, the author of the story, Alexandra Petri who had blatantly misreported, twice in the same article at Dana Milbank's "Rough Sketch" blog, the long-ago debunked myth that Rightwing con-man and dirty trickster James O'Keefe had "dressed up as a pimp to interview members of ACORN" in his scam video tapes that shamefully took down the four-decade old anti-poverty, pro-democracy organization based on his hateful hoax.

As we detailed in our original report on Petri's inaccuracy last week, O'Keefe never dressed as a pimp and never even represented himself as a pimp in the offices of ACORN. The truth about all of that had been publicly available to know for almost a year before Petri misreported on it in the pages of the Washington Post last week.

Given that the Washington Post published another related story over a year ago with a number of similarly misleading inaccuracies in it, which they have yet to correct even after all this time, perhaps we should be happy it took less than a week this time around for the right thing to be done at the paper.

Petri has finally, nearly a week later, corrected her article, as she notes in the following email sent to us this morning...

2. Good work, Brad!
The real shame is that anyone should have to lobby persistently and long for the correction of what are obvious factual errors.

3. K and R
The latest exploits involving a female reporter from CNN speak volumes as to just how lame and low this brat can go. What I don't get is how a media can want to remain so clueless as accomplices.

Thanks Brad.

7. What were the responses before they finally agreed on the facts?
And we hear all these thumb-suckers from the major media outlets about how tough it is to report the news anymore. I know it's kind of a radical idea, but how about getting the facts right, folks? We can go from there, but the facts are important.

Case in point was tonight's NBC Nightly News. They had a report on the Times Square Bomber, and his being sentenced to life in prison. There was a dramatic demonstration on what sort of damage the bomb would have inflicted had it gone off. Oh, it was terrible. Horrible. Right on the heels of that, they had a report on the latest drone attack in Pakistan. By remote control, our military had bombed a house that they thought might contain an Al Qaeda operative. Nope. Maybe they injured him, but the attack killed seven people, Germans alleged to be jihadists. NBC didn't evince the slightest discomfort with the juxtaposed stories.

Faisal Shahzad will spend the rest of his life in prison. He didn't kill anyone. The operator of our drone will be welcomed home a hero. He killed seven, seven people killed without warning, who couldn't get away and couldn't defend themselves. Today the deceased are jihadists. As we've seen many times before, today's dead are often terrorists, and tomorrow (or next week or next month or whenever) they turn out to be people whose only sin was being under an American bomb. And there's never any follow up.

16. Dead-on. I don't agree with casual "MSM" smacking, but they fail utterly on the "war on terror."

12. It's shocking that you have to constantly twist their arm into presenting an accurate account
But I'm glad somebody's doing it. Great job in watchdogging the supposed watchdogs!
