Breaking on MSNBC: Specter says Gonzo
Edited on Sun May-20-07 06:37 PM by malaise
will probably resign by the end of the week since a substantial number of REthug senators will support the no confidence vote.

Adios you subservient criminal jackass. I hope he ends up in jail.

MSNBC news update.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18769091/
<snip>
The top Republican on the Senate committee investigating Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Sunday he believes Gonzales could step down before a no-confidence vote sought this week by Senate Democrats.

Yet Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he believed a “sizable number” of GOP lawmakers would join Democrats in expressing their lack of confidence in the attorney general.

Five Republicans have urged Gonzales to resign over his firing of federal prosecutors, while several other Republicans have expressed criticism of his actions.

“Votes of no confidence are very rare,” Specter said. “Historically, that is something which Attorney General Gonzales would like to avoid. I think that if and when he sees that coming, he would prefer to avoid that kind of a historical black mark.”

Massive victory for Dems

2. Specter's quotes suggest that this is over
and it would suit Gonzo to avoid the vote.

8. Caveat Follows:
Edited on Sun May-20-07 06:48 PM by PCIntern
As a Pennsylvanian, I've been forced to listen to Specter for decades - in fact, since before 1963 and the famous single bull(sh)et theory. Without going into the details of previous disappointments, let's see what happens by the end of the week.

I can hear it now (in Kansasian Twang): "Well, I've reviewed all the documentation and I cannot at this time see a Constitutional problem with the testimony of the Attorney General, although I certainly would have preferred to have had hime be more forthcoming." Or words to that effect.

24. I'm not from there
but I know enough to have nicknamed him Single Bullet Theory Specter. He's not a good guy but he occasionally plays one on TV when his finger held up to the wind tells him to be.

11. Specter is more cautious with his comments than a lawyer
...pleading a Taliban defense on Sept. 12, 2001.

He does indeed like it both ways. So, if he is really
coming out definitively advocating, or even predicting
Gonzo gone, then chances are, it's already a done deal,
and he's just doing a little dusting off of the red carpet
so Gonzo can walk into the sunset in style......

21. Has Arlen Specter openly called for Gonzales to resign? I've not
...anything about Specter doing that, but I believe a number of republican senators have come forward asking for Gonzales to step down as Attorney General.

26. Though I Ain't Countin Any Chickens Yet, If It Turns Out To Be True Then Chalk One Up To The Dems.
If they're successful in getting him to resign prior to the vote, then this would be their first huge victory in my opinion. I'm not holdin my breath yet cause lord knows ya can't bank on anything anymore, but let's all keep crossin our fingers! Go Dems!!!
