Brothers and Sisters Please Don't Fall For Scams asking for Donations for Veterans
Edited on Sun May-20-07 08:25 PM by Monkeyman
Look it happens every dam year about this time. Memorial Day and Veterans Day are thier target dates. From Me Only the DAV is standing tall for Veterans. The American Legion and VFW seem to only care about backing Bush. But Here is the signs to watch out for . Veterans Charity calls are not right. DAV and other organizations only do this by mail. If they call you have them give you a number to call them back on. Make Donations only by mail or online to the organization you want too. VoteVet and Veterans For Peace are two other good ones. Now Larry Scott of VA WATCHDOG has one of these scams on his site here is the link it happened in Arizona.. http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/blogs/clockingin/3976/ag-says-don't-fall-for-scam-solicting-donations-for-veterans

5. And also the Firefighters org. I always tell them that I give to my local
department. However, it is good to know this about vet sights because everyone does not have a local vets hospital. Thank you, Monkeyman.

2. I belong to an organization in SO. Az who support the VA down here
We NEVER solicit funds. Instead we ask our members for books, playing cars, toiletries, etc. We also invite Vets from the Tucson VA hospital to our pancake breakfasts and to other events. Usually the VA brings 25-30 hospitalized Vets to these events.

Instead of soliciting funds, this org. will walk the walk and talk the talk.

Man Pretending To Be Soldier Scams Residents

POSTED: 2:28 pm PDT May 7, 2007
UPDATED: 3:01 pm PDT May 7, 2007

NORTH BEND, Wash. -- North Bend residents told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News a man claiming to be a soldier from Iraq scammed residents into giving him money by making up a story.

The man who claimed to be Lt. Dan Daily with the United States Army told multiple people he had just returned from Iraq and that he had been stationed at Fort Bragg but was set to report to Fort Lewis in a week.

Many North Bend residents said they felt for the man and gave him money.

“He said something about his girlfriend -- that he sent all his money to his girlfriend and she took the money and ran with the kids,” Jeanine Horsfall said

6. My hard-and-fast rule: I don't give to anyone who asks me over the phone,
period. Even the charities I know have to send a letter. (How do I know it's really them on the phone?)
