Border agents recruited for Iraq duty

A military contractor is recruiting current and former agents with the U.S. Border Patrol to teach Iraqis how to secure their national borders.

The U.S. State Department has asked Virginia-based DynCorp International to find 120 people with Customs and Border Enforcement experience to go to Iraq for the training.

The company already has 700 police trainers in Iraq. The department made the request for border security trainers in late March.

DynCorp is offering recruits $134,100 for a one-year stay, plus a $25,000 signing bonus. The first $90,000 in income is tax free, and housing and food are free, company spokesman Gregory Lagana said.

Border Patrol agents with at least two years' experience make roughly $55,000.

2. Oh, yeah, that'll work
Look how well they protect our own borders, and the immigrants flooding in generally aren't armed to the teeth.

4. For $159,000 alot of people would risk their lives
I might too, but not to fight in a war. I live in an area where there are Border Patol agents/vehicles everywhere. There is a pond at the end of my road (rare around here) and the BP hang there to catch illegals. Yesterday on the way to Douglas,AZ., I saw the "Migra" with maybe two dozen illegals at the side of the road ready to be taken into custody. The big difference though between here and Iraq, is that almost all of these illegals are peaceful. the BP agents won't find that is the case in Iraq.

6. Was this a 'bid' contract?
I wonder what the Cons are going to say about Bush's DOD "recruiting current and former" border patrol agents. Will they simply urge that they be replaced with the military? Oh...maybe that's the exit strategy!
