NY Times - "Big Spending by Republican-Friendly Groups"
The amount of spending by secret corporate friendly political groups is just breath taking. And, the corporate media, continues to carry the water of Republicans by not questioning the lack of transparency of such groups, and suggesting that there is nothing wrong with that.

Republican groups outside the official party are getting inside the 2010 midterms, spending millions of dollars on ad buys with less than three weeks until the election.

On Wednesday, four Republican-friendly groups — American Crossroads and its related advocacy group, Crossroads GPS, the American Action Network and the Commission on Hope, Growth and Opportunity — began a “House surge strategy,” pouring $50 million into several dozen competitive House races.

The blitz will mainly focus on races where Democrats have a financial advantage. Crossroads is contributing $10 million to the joint effort, including $2 million behind an initial set of ads that will go up Friday in eight House races. The group said it anticipates that its investment would cover at least 15 races.

The American Action Network, led by Norm Coleman, the former Republican senator from Minnesota, went on the air Wednesday and is investing $15 million to $16 million in television and Internet advertising. Mr. Coleman said he expected to have spots up in 22 races across the country.

1. Why republicans are ahead in the polls - Republican Groups Overwhelming Democrats With TV Ads
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 11:26 PM by LaPera
And in the final week it's only going to get worst as Karl Rove slimy corporate organization, Republican head of the Chamber of Commerce, RNC, Coleman's group and many other foreign & domestic corporations will be flooding hundreds of millions of dollars with republican promoting (lying) TV ads - Radio ads - Internet ads - Newspaper ads - and millions of robo-calls to homes & businesses! It's going to be an unheard of unbalanced corporate republican right-wing media blitz that has never been seen before and it WILL sway elections in the republicans favor in the many close races.

"Republican corporations and millionaires have amassed a crushing 6-1 advantage in television spending, and now are dominating the airwaves in closely contested districts and states across the country.

The extra firepower on the conservative side comes as some key Democratic-leaning organizations are experiencing unexpected trouble raising money or motivating supporters.

The advertising mismatch, reflected in campaign documents obtained by The Associated Press, is hampering efforts by President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders to sway a shrinking number of undecided voters. Early voting has already begun in some states, and Republicans are positioned to win a number of House and Senate seats, placing Democratic control of both chambers in jeopardy.

Helped by looser fundraising rules, about two dozen organizations intended to benefit Republicans are active this fall in House and Senate races; fewer than 10 are aimed at helping Democrats. Ad spending by GOP allies over the past two months has totaled nearly $30 million in 15 states with competitive Senate or House races; Democratic outside groups have spent less than $5 million. And even more money, perhaps from even more groups, is expected to roll out in the final month of the campaign

"There's no even playing field here," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee....not even close.
