Did Bush ask Ashcroft to sign a predated document?
Edited on Mon May-21-07 03:43 PM by BuyingThyme
Has anybody asked this question of James Comey in regards to that domestic spying document?

Maybe that's one of the things which needed "adjustment" -- one of the things with which James Comey took exception (but refused to identify during his testimony).

Maybe the reason they needed Ashcroft, not Comey, to sign the document is because it wouldn't make sense for Comey to sign a document which was dated before he became the acting attorney general.

?

8. Is this question based on anything? Anything at all? That's not how signing works.

9. How does signing work?
How does signing work when it comes to secret "programs" above and beyond the law?

10. Good point. Legally, a document only takes affect upon signing.
Of course, that's when the laws of the land still apply!!!

11. They knew that Ashcroft had
handed his AG duties off to Comey. Yet, after visiting Ashcroft in the hospital, they claimed that they were unaware that any hand-off had taken place.

Now, being sane, we understand that the fact that Ashcroft was in a hospital bed should have reminded them that a hand-off had taken place. If not, the fact that Ashcroft indicated that a hand-off had taken place should have tipped them off to the fact that a hand-off had taken place.

So, we have to ask ourselves: Why would they want the wrong guy to sign the document? And being that the right guy was right there -- beside Ashcroft's hospital bed -- why didn't they just ask him (Comey) to sign it? And how are they served by claiming that they didn't know about the hand-off? Would they admit to such a thing if they were not trying to cover for something else?

Gonzales Backdated Griffin's Appointment to Get around Pryor

There has been a bit of discussion about the Comey hospital story. Why would Gonzales and Card get Ashcroft's signature to authorize their domestic spying program? Any idiot who knew about Ashcroft's gallbladder surgery wouldn't accept his signature, on March 10, as valid. Is it possible they intended to backdate the signature? Nahhh! Gonzales wouldn't do that, would he?

Yes he would.

Yesterday's document dump includes the Control Sheet for Tim Griffin's appointment. The control sheet makes it very clear: Alberto Gonzales signed the appointment on December 18 ... but it was dated December 15. ...............

==========================================
So the question has a new framework.

Was the paperwork prepared on Friday and on Gonzolies' desk on Monday?
OR
Was there an effort to make it appear Gonzolies signed it on Friday?

Do we have anything, anything at all, on that score, or is the speculation just increasing in orbit?
