Cholera outbreak in Haiti - over 135 persons dead
Can these poor people take any more suffering? Does anyone care?

<snip>
A cholera epidemic in northern Haiti has claimed 135 lives and infected 1,500 people over the last few days, Claude Surena, president of the Haitian Medical Association, said Thursday.

The epidemic has not yet reached the major displaced persons camps in and around the capital Port-au-Prince, which was ravaged by a 7.0 earthquake in January that left 1.2 million people homeless.

But officials fear an outbreak in densely populated tent cities that have poor sanitation and meager medical facilities has the potential of unleashing a public health disaster.

"According to the results of the analysis carried out in the laboratory it is cholera," Surena confirmed to AFP of the outbreak in Saint Marc, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of the capital.

1. We promised to give them money. We didn't.
The bastard who tied up the money is a mass murderer.

3. Specifically -- Senator Tom Coburn put a "secret hold" on the aid money
That is where our ire should be directed.

That SOB needs to be replaced by a Dem -- ANY Dem. Blue Dog, Yellow Dog, Conserva-Dem, Progressive, or closet Green -- frankly I don't give a damn in the General Election because of crap like this.
:argh:

8. The surprise will be if it doesn't spread to the tents
in the Port au Prince - that will be another disaster of epic proportions.

11. Hopefully WHO and other health organizations can get a handle on
this before it gets totally out of hand. It is not unexpected after a disaster the size of that earthquake.

12. This is horrible. :(
My heart hurts for the people of Haiti. No one should go through that amount of suffering. I can only hope that the folks of Haiti will continue to have strength and hope in the midst of this utter despair. I will always yearn for things to get better over there and that their country will be rebuilt.

:(
