Single-Payer Health System Could Save Maine $1 Billion a Year
With health care costs high and rising, state lawmakers are trying to come up with new alternatives incorporating recent federal reform laws. Today in Augusta, a committee heard from a health care expert who says a single-payer system could save a billion dollars in Maine each year.

In the early 1990s, when Taiwan wanted to tackle rising health care costs, it hired economist William Hsiao to come up with a solution. And it was a tall order, Hsiao told the Legislature's Joint Select Committee on Health Care Reform Opportunites and Implementation.

5. And each of us....
...lives next door to someone who don't have health insurance but rather not have any health insurance provided by the government. And they don't want anyone else to have it either.

Besides, "Freedom" is a loaded work in my opinion.

14. Save money, and save lives.
Too bad that does't interest the self-identified "pro-lifers" who really don't give a shit about babies dying, much less adults.

Each day, 273 people die due to lack of health care in the U.S.; that's 100,000 deaths per year.

We need single-payer health care, not a welfare bailout for the serial-killer insurance agencies.

We don't need the GingrichCare of mandated, unregulated, for-profit insurance that is still too expensive, only pays parts of medical bills, denies claims, bankrupts and kills people. Republinazi '93 plan:
"Subtitle F: Universal Coverage - Requires each citizen or lawful permanent resident to be covered under a qualified health plan or equivalent health care program by January 1, 2005."

"We will never have real reform until people's health stops being treated as a financial opportunity for corporations."

15. you mean, subtracting all the profits of middlemen from the cost of the system
and permanently removing the incentive to ever higher and accelerating prices from the paying entity could somehow bring about savings to the overall bottomline? Well, that's a headscratcher right there. I can't see how all those subtractions could actually lead to lower costs. I mean mathematically, sure, a it's simple and self-evident proposition. But economics isn't a math based science! Economics is all about faith in the free market system. Unless you have faith in the Invisible Hand, nothing will come out to the good. You've got to have faith in the Invisible Hand, and obedience to the Hand's earthly vicars and emissaries - our market leaders. Ex venalicium non salvatum est.
