The Carroll County, Iowa, attorney will ask a judge to allow authorities to seize 40 horses from a local farm because the animals are emaciated and starving.
Sheriff’s deputies have dropped off hay at the farm of Tom D. Hall so that the animals can eat, said John Werden, the county attorney. None of the animals is expected to die.
Authorities pursued a similar case against Hall about two years ago, Werden said. The man paid a $20,000 bond for care and feeding of the animals, and they were returned to him in May 2009, according to court documents.
Attempts to reach Hall for comment Thursday evening were unsuccessful.
This time, Carroll County deputies discovered the horses after someone reported a few were outside a fence near Hall’s farm southeast of Carroll.
