Poll question: Will DU Become A Friendlier Place after The Election?
Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 12:03 PM by MineralMan
To be very frank, I'm really looking forward to November 3 and the end of the questions about how things will turn out in 2010. There has been lots of ugly stuff here on DU in the runup to this election. I think we've all noticed it. So, what do you think: Will DU turn its attention to issues that are a bit further down the road after the election. Will things ease up a little? What do you think?

 :hi:

Sorry, couldn't resist the invitation to be an asshole.

As for the question, I really haven't found it to be unfriendly as it is. What's the reference to the "ugly stuff" in your OP? It might get a bit more silly, but it will still be the same basic DU stuff - a good place to share ideas and find people who aren't moronic dumbfuck FOX droppings.

On Edit: I voted for the pie. I like pie.

7. Well, the pie option seems to be very popular, for sure.
I chose coconut cream, because it's been my favorite for many years. I shouldn't eat it, but it's soooo good.

11. Lemon meringue is mine, but I'll go for a Key lime (a REAL one, not the fake green shit).

21. Here ya go, with plenty of meringue.

You'll have to share with the other poster, though. I hope that's OK.

For me as a kid growing up that lemon pie would have been cooked in a wood cook stove, now that was some good eating. All homemade too. Yummy yummy :hi:

3. The question is dependent on the outcome of the voting.
I mean, a sweep by Republicans of the House and the Senate will lead to most of the people here at DU to rally in self defense over Republicans shutting down the government and investigation of Obama. If the status quo remains, the fighting here continues until issues get worked through.

Without something holding us together, differing opinions on issues drive the fighting here.

5. I don't think that will happen. What I think might happen if there is a repug take over is
people will be giving more leeway to the president for conservative policies.

Saying he's got to do something, something is better than nothing, we have to get Obama re-elected and in the process lose sight of liberal principles and values.

6. I don't know about that.
At least in the short term, if the Dems face a worst-case scenario, I bet the postmortem sniping will be pretty brutal. Long-term, you're probably right.

15. True. Anyone with a memory of who posted what
Will have no sympathy for anyone casting stones at the Democrats now, if the Republicans win.

If the Democrats win, it could be better but go on the same.

8. Assignment of either credit or blame will override friendliness.
If the Dems win, or don't lose, credit will be claimed by all and sundry. If the Dems lose, blame will ascribed to all and sundry.

Meh.

9. I sure hope that's not the case. Win or lose, we will have lots of
work to do leading up to 2012. I'm hopeful that we'll be able to all work together.

Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 12:25 PM by Akoto
DU became an unfriendly place the moment President Obama was elected, not because of him, but because Bush was out. At long last, we had won that battle, which meant we'd also lost our universal enemy.

It didn't take long for people to divide up into their separate camps, see their own issues as paramount, and then get outraged/claw at each others' throats due to the handling of said issues. We no longer had that uniting force, our common foe of eight years.

18. Things will definitely become more contentious
If going by the past is indication, there will be large influx of whining and finger pointing for about 3 months, then after a few of the more vocal posters are tomb stoned things will calm down to the usual state of histrionics.

24. Well, right out of the box I'd say that the recommendations of
Obama's Deficit Commission, particularly with respect to Social Security/Medicare/etc., will set the tone of the next big blow-out here on DU.

29. It seems to have calmed down a bit recently
If things go well, things will probably continue to go decently IMHO. If it doesn't, expect a few weeks (months?) of the circular firing squad as everybody tries to sort out who's to blame.
