The US is "reaching out" to more than 300 Iraqis it believes are at serious risk after their names were exposed in secret Iraq war documents released by WikiLeaks.
The whistleblowing websiteis reportedly preparing to publish around 400,000 classified US government documents on US military action in Iraq. Pentagon Spokesman Geoff Morrell said US Central Command would contact more than 300 Iraqis it feels are at "significant risk of reprisal" after their names were revealed. Mr Morrell said thousands of names had been exposed, but 300 of them were at higher risk.
WikiLeaks says it will make a major announcement in London at 10am on Saturday but has said almost nothing publicly about the nature of the event. However, a team of more than 100 analysts from across the American military has been combing through the documents they think will be released.
Collectively called the Information Review Task Force, these analysts have told US Central Command of some of the names of Iraqis and allies and other information they believe might be published and could present a danger.
