Larry Scanlon, AFSCME Political Director, on 'Countdown' a little while ago:
Scanlon said AFSCME held back on heavy political action in this campaign season until they saw the massive funding committed by the Right to capture a congressional majority.
He said it became an 'all hands on deck' situation when it became clear that the GOP intends to go after privatizing Social Security, eliminate defined benefits for workers, and repeal HCR.
His reply, when Olberman asked him about the so-called 'enthusiasm gap' between the parties:
"We're seeing MORE enthusiasm.... In fact, it's beyond enthusiasm--it's anger."____________________________
It wasn't an earthshaking interview, except for that one snippet about what union activists are seeing on the ground. "...it's beyond enthusiasm--it's anger."
Important to note for anyone tempted to be disheartened by the MSM's constant harping on the 'enthusiasm gap' and the prospect for the Democratic Party losing umpty-ump seats--brazillions of seats!--in Congress.
With so many so committed to undermining our party's GOTV efforts, how refreshing it is to hear from someone whose troops on the front lines are reporting an entirely different story.
Yes, the party in power always loses seats in mid-term elections. But the outlook need not be so dire if we keep the recent momentum going and remain committed to our candidates and keep contributing and volunteering and working to defeat all the whackjob wingnut and teabagger candidates the conservatives have found themselves stuck with.
Scanlon's comments are just one more thing that leads me to say, "Enthusiasm gap my ass!"
We have a slogan, "Yes, we can!" But I can't help being partial to an older one from the WWII Era...
