Costco got unfairly badmouthed yesterday... A word of props from me today!
Edited on Tue May-22-07 11:31 AM by calipendence
I was going to respond to a thread yesterday where someone bad mouthed Costco's customer service, with just about every response to it saying that 99% of everyone here probably disagreed with him.

I wanted to echo that, but waited until I finished going to Costco last night before making the response, and it looks like that thread has been removed.

A month or so ago, right before doing taxes, my HP laser printer I'd bought from them just about 2 years ago went on the fritz. I'd been busy the last month or so, but over the weekend I looked at it and found out that the yellow cartridge had "exploded" or the like and had spewed yellow dust inside the printer. Well, wasn't sure that I could get my money back on the printer itself, but I thought I'd check and if necessary take the cartridge to identify some replacement cartridges I could put in that were on sale at Costco now.

I took it back and they looked over my invoice history for it. When I told them that the cartridge came with the printer, they said they couldn't give me a new cartridge, but to bring back the printer and they'd give me my money back.

I then saw the bad mouth post on DU later that evening...

Yesterday I boxed up the whole printer, took it back to them, and they were completely cool about giving my money back on it, saying that it was a deleted item and that I couldn't get a replacement cartridge there anyway with it, since they didn't carry them. Anyway, I got my money back, and bought the newer HP color laser printer model that conveniently had a $90 off coupon this week (which had built-in networking that the old one didn't) and paid 75 cents less than what I got refunded back for the old one! So damn! I got a brand new printer and Costco in effect gave me 75 cents to do so (actually more when I get 1% of the printer price coming back on my AMEX card promotion later).

Had I bought that printer just about anywhere else, my 1 year warrantee would have been expired and I would have been SOL and would have had to buy an additional cartridge to boot!

Not only because Costco treats their employees well, but that they also treat their customers well is the reason to shop there! And even though I'm a single person that doesn't benefit from most of their their "bulk products" as families might, it still paid off for me yesterday!

2. Completely agree. They are the BEST
I have had several incidences similar to yours over the years with Costco, and for that reason, it's my first choice place to buy things,if they carry what I need. I was shocked the first time I was told to return something that broke more than a year after I purchased it.

3. I did not see that thread!
I love Costco. It is teh bom. And I find ways to make the bulk food work. This week, I'm eating Hot Pockets! Woot! Next week, I'm sick of Hot Pockets. It'll be Fish Stick Week! Woot!

I get everything from books to granola to cameras to clothes there. I buy the big pack of paper towels and store it away. Paper towels for a year and a half. Woot!

7. One thing that bugs me now though is lack of "fresh soups"...
Anyone else notice that? For a while they had all kinds of stuff Corn Tortilla, Lobster Newburg, corn chowder, etc.

When I went to Trader Joes afterwards they don't have them either. I asked them and they said that they'd stopped selling them a while back too.

Is there a "quiet" recall of soups going on now? With the pet food scare and other food messes lately, it keeps making me paranoid about such things.

Or perhaps are a lot of folks shifting to the newer dried soup boxes, etc. instead.

4. We're looking forward to getting Costco in our area
From what I've heard we'll be better off having the choice to shop there.
