Where do we go from here with this violent political atmosphere?
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 12:39 PM by SargeUNN
Each election cycle of the last decade at least, I have found at the final days of it myself thinking I am glad it is coming to an end because it gets so bad. This one is the worse I have ever seen and that is saying a lot considering I was in Mississippi during the end of Jim Crow and while the black vote was being fought hard for. That time was horrible and scarey but this today is worse. When people are afraid to support a candidate with a simple bumper stick because some violence could come their way since it has happened so often, when someone could go to a town hall meeting as I did last year and left worried that I might not get back to my car without some thugs jumping me because I was known to be a show host on a progressive station here in Phoenix. Now we find out Proffit came/comes here so who is to know if this freak won't target one of us.

Folks, I don't know if we are seeing the end of democracy, but it sure is threatened with this just like it was in Italy during the rise of Mussolini, and Germany during the rise of Hitler. Of course there are other examples, but the real fact is everytime the nation facing it suffers for decades. We aren't anymore likely to avoid it than those nations before us. I, for one, am concerned.

1. Dems and Libs have been retreating in the face of attacks from the reich for decades. As
anyone with a brain knows, this only encourages the bullies to keep doing what they do, and escalate their violence with the knowledge that they will suffer no consequences.

If democracy is worth anything, it is worth defending. But I don't see enough Democrats with the courage or dedication to do so. Thus, we have pigs with badges and private "security" goons and campaign operatives taking the next logical step in their war against the people.

Sad, but not unexpected.

2. Or problem is we elected people who proposed to support
WE THE PEOPLE. And it seems that once they take office that all vanishes except for some congress people , like Franken, Grayson and Weiner to name a few. Most turn to the "dark side" as we say led their by the overwhelming amount of money thrust at them by the lobbyist and the billionaires. They don't seem able to resist the temptation to sell out, so they can stay in office and reap the "benefits".

IF we had term limits a strict six year limit, public financing, no corporations and etc allowed to contribute and someone who was in congress can't run for any re-election for another 6 years after the leave office, we might be able to get something done.
