Boycott Exxon
It may not bring prices down, it may not make any difference at all...but we have to start somewhere.

Boycott them just for the fact that they pocketed an obscene $39.5 BILLION dollar profit last year.

Boycott them just because it doesn't require any great exertion on anyone's part.

Boycott them just because WE are in charge and have to start doing SOMETHING.

Boycott them just to show the strength we have in numbers.

Boycott them just to show them our unity and conviction.

Trust me...if 75% of this nation boycotted Exxon, it WILL make a difference.

1. Now this is a gas boycott I've already been doing
Not buying gas on one day out of the year does shit. Not buying gas from one company consistantly might have impact

2. I began that after Exxon Valdes oil spill back on March 23, 1989
...and their attempted cover-up and skirting of responsibilities. Then when they bought out Mobil I stopped going to Mobil for my gas.

3. That's a pipe dream
Where do you think Exxon will sell its excess inventory at MARKET prices?? Of course they'll sell it to Shell, Chevron, Citgo or whomever else. They simply won't sit on it. They'll sell at MARKET prices to be sold at the pump at MARKET prices.

You are welcome, however, to do what you think you have to, even though it won't make a bit of difference in the price at the pump.

9. I wondered how long it would take
for someone to be negative. That says it all about why bush and the bushbuddies are still in power. We aren't doing anything cuz 'it won't work'.

So who has suggestions for getting rid of bushco? It looks like it is up to the people to effect change now that the democratic leadership has caved.

13. I'm not being negative
It's how the market works. The ONLY thing that's going to decrease the cost of gas is a DECREASE in demand, less driving, and since demand is UP over last year, that isn't going to happen any time soon. We may be looking at $4-$5 gas a gallon before the Summer is over.

But unfortunately the SO owns stock in them, so that's all he buys.

12. It might be the same oil
but there is a reason why Exxon made $39.5 BILLION last year in profit...more than any other corporation in history.

Hit them at the convenience stores. Don't buy their stuff.

20. It hurts the station operators which we want to do.
They get no car repairs and noone will buy their convenience items.

Call your local Exxon/Mobil station. Tell them you will not deal with them until the CEO gets prices of gas down to $1.75 a gallon, then go buy citgo or another gas brand and also get your car repaired there.

24. Station operators are just normal people making a living
Boycotting them will just hurt the wrong people.

The problem is at the wholesale level, not the stores themselves

16. Another reason to boycott them?
They STILL haven't paid their damages to the Alaskan fishermen for the EXXON VALDEZ oil spill, almost 20 years ago.

19. That's Just Too Funny! "Even Though It Won't Do Anything, Do It Anyway"

Yeah, cause I love putting effort into things that right off of the bat don't matter.

But I find this part even funnier:

"Trust me...if 75% of this nation boycotted Exxon, it WILL make a difference."

Yeah, you're absolutely right there. But I'd say you're setting your expectations just a tad high, no?

I got a few more for ya if you'd like:

"Trust me...if 90% of this nation ceased to drive, we would save so much energy!"

"Trust me...if 82.6% of this nation donated half of their disposable income to charity, we could almost wipe out poverty!"

"Trust me...if 71% of people vote for the Democrat next election, we'll have nothing to worry about!"

25. OK...You win
Instead of making some snarky remark about how NOT buying gas at Exxon is "putting effort into things that right off of the bat don't matter",
let me put my appeal to boycott to bed.

I think what bothers me the most about our society today is that we are in an incredible mess which will take years and years to fix and I don't see the activism I saw back in the day.

I guess there are so many issues that are FUBAR that we can't focus on one issue and in doing that, we are fragmented in our activism. You have to admit bushco was very clever to mess things up so bad, we became too overwhelmed to come together as a group to repair the damage done.

So it looks like we will just have to sit out his lame duckness and hope there is something left to repair.

It looks like nothing that we do will make a difference. They won.

21. Now that you mention it,
I haven't seen an Exxon station in years.

Where I live we have Valero, Chevron, Unocal, Arco, and a few local operations. I don't know if Exxon is behind any of these.
