I doubt they could have bought this much publicity for their cartoon show.

4. True but the question is
why did no other city fall for this nonsense.

6. Indeed, that was the part that made me laugh.
The fact that it has been going on in many other cities for a couple weeks. BOO!

7. That doesn't make the cops in Boston idiots. It makes the people who DID it idiots.
Just so we're clear on that.

8. I can't speak for cops because I didn't see what they saw.
It made all of us idiots, fearful idiots. I really hate this be afraid stuff. Nothing wrong with being afraid of things that are real, but the fearmongering really pisses me off.

2. Once again, presuming that it was intended to be a bomb threat.
Way to buy into media-driven stupidity.

3. Is it really that strange?
Couldn't the original radio broadcast of War of the Worlds be accused of the same?

9. That was probably the first one, at least in the electronic media.
However, you could argue that while this cartoon promotion was an advertisement for a "work of art," War of the Worlds was a work of art in itself, and therefore not so much in the realm of commerce.

10. I see it another way

Homeland security is using a harmless advertising gimmick to reinforce the message of fear and hopelessness in our society. Be afraid. Don't leave your house. Don't ask questions. This for your own good. Don't fight back. Just let us handle it. We know what's best.
on and on.

11. I think you've got something there.
It works both ways: Totalitarian interests benefit, to the detriment of freedom, and commercial interests benefit, to the detriment of citizenship.

12. Correct me if I'm wrong
but I understand that this was also done in 9 or 10 other cities and it was done about three weeks ago.
If that's the case, wouldn't the alphabet soup be aware of this nonsense already? And wouldn't that make this whole "scare" just more of the same color coded bs we've been fed for too long?

13. I can't argue with that.
Increasing fear is what this administration has done for the past 6 years, and what advertisers have done for the past 60.
