Woman Receives Death Threats Days After Beck Targets Her On His Show
Add another to the ever-growing list of violent threats and acts perpetrated by the insane right/teabag right.

The League of Women Voters has filed complaints with police in Evanston, IL and the FBI saying that one of their officials has been targeted by death threats relating to a candidatess debate she moderated last week. Kathy Tate-Bradish was a volunteer moderator at the October 21 debate in the state’s 8th District and sparked conservative outrage when she expressed what was perceived as “lukewarm” support for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Just as the debate was about to begin, an audience member asked Tate-Bradish whether the pledge would be recited. When she “explained the pledge was not scheduled to begin the event, almost all in the crowd of more than 300 stood and enthusiastically recited it anyway.” Tate-Bradish recited the pledge as well, but told the crowd afterwards that the Pledge is not typically recited at candidate debates moderated by the League.

Within a few days, Tate-Bradish went from an unknown local League official to a right-wing villain, thanks to Fox News host Glenn Beck, who devoted a significant portion of his October 25 show to attacking her personally

<snip>

...following the threats, the League locked the doors to its Chicago offices for several days and alerted the building management of the possible threat. “I’ve been working in politics and nonprofits for a long long time and I never seen this level and pitch of vitriol,” she said.

29. Not lockstep conformity, as the author was indeed a socialist, but definitely assimilation for ...
... hundreds of thousands of new American schoolchildren during a great wave of immigration.

I learned it in elementary school, and remember stumbling to relearn it when "under God" was added during the McCarthy era.

It's good for schoolchildren -- but in the hands of wingnuts, it becomes a tool of oppression. One of our local politicians, a woman, was brought down by a group of wingnuts wielding the flag and noisily insisting that she open her informational meeting with the pledge.

33. Beck and the TeaPartiers have long crossed this line
The authorities can't be that stupid and not connect the dots. Dr. Tiller was a victim of this kind of threat.

It is time for Americans to start holding law enforcement responsible for upholding the law.

On Bill Mahr last night the two Repugs tried to say there was as much violence on the left as there is on the right. Bill Mahr didn't let them get away with it. We shouldn't either.

IMO it was a bad enough with rightwing nuts going after any democrat, blue dog or progressive. Now, they're going after anyone who isn't "them" with a scary vitriole. And trying to change the political process through intimidation masked as patriotism. And Glenn Beck is leading the charge.

organize debates between all the candidates and pass out mailers listing ballot questions with pro and against answers. Hardly partisan.

The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics
By Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

43. There's already been right-wing violence because of this
Edited on Sun Oct-31-10 11:06 AM by Kievan Rus
-Jim Adkisson, the Unitarian church shooter, was an avowed follower of the right-wing hate machine. He wrote an angry manifesto were he said how much he despied liberals and cited various right-wing hate machine voices.

-Richard Poplawski, the Pittsburgh cop-killer, was paranoid of a nonexistent "Obama gun ban" that had been whipped up by the right-wing noise machine. He greatly feared that people were going to take all of his guns away. When the Pittsburgh Police responded to his home following a domestic dispute, Poplawski opened fire and killed three officers and wounded two more.

These are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more that are related to right-wing media getting the crazies all riled up.

9. Hang on a second
We can't be reporting on this for the following reasons. First, Glenn Beck is "just an entertainer." So just because he mentioned something in passing on his show for a half hour or so, is no reason to think that it was the genesis for what some poor, unstable individual took it into his head to do.

Second, how do we know that the League of Women Voters and Kathy Tate-Bradish didn't threaten themselves? It would be just like liberals to phony up some death threats just to make a great American like Glenn Beck look bad. This is obviously censorship! Let freedom reign!

Third, we need to be even-handed about this, because we can't just report a story that makes conservatives look like deranged, violent nutcases without a parallel story that makes liberals look the same. How can we say "both sides do it" if both sides aren't doing it? That isn't very fair or balanced!

And fourth, uh, Tate-Bradish is from Chicago, and everyone knows what that means . . .

I'm proud to see that some of the responses are from people who are calling the incident what it is: A stunt to disrupt and distract.

I've had it with giving bullies and boors and ignoramuses a platform. Let's call them out for what they are every time.

More on the story, this time from the Chicago Tribune and Media Matters:

So an “invited” audience at a public event now gets to decide the agenda? This is called mob rule, and it never works out well.

Next time you are invited to a friend’s or neighbor’s home for dinner, be sure and tell the host or hostess how to serve the meal and plan the evening.

Oh, and don’t forget to bring a typed prayer that you would like them to say before eating. You can’t be to careful, they might not meet your Christian standards.

Again, the problem is that those that disrupt are allowed to get away with making excuses for their behavior, or even painting themselves as the victims -- the mark of an abuser, and of manipulative types in general.

26. an author who writes on Palin's extremism was a victim of curbing at the hands of palin fans
look at the photos of her at the link:

Rand Paul’s Goons Know ~ “Curbing” is NO Accident!
http://godsownparty.com/blog/2010/10/rand-pauls-goons-know-curbing-is-no-accident

So…why is this so personally disturbing to me? I too was made victim of “curbing”. Yep…that is what they call it. It is alarmingly in the lexicon of skinhead circles and practiced with such brutality that it makes these thugs look like amateurs…but this is the origin of the method. It has been featured in skinhead films like History X to television series such as “The Sopranos” where Mafia violence was romanticized. Here’s the thing…no matter HOW it is presented…violence is ugly.

These people who stomped on Ms. Valle are the same ones who run around decrying freedom and liberty. “Don’t Tread on ME!” they proclaim angrily! We want our freedom to pack our weapons and speak our minds…they holler! But…these rights and freedoms are clearly reserved only for those who hold their views, ascribe to their ideologies and adhere to their rules…otherwise you are the enemy.

I found out what it felt like to be the victim of the less skinhead version of curbing…right after I left a gathering where I had shared openly how dangerous Sarah Palin is because of her extreme religious world view. I had passed out my card to several who asked which had “TheoPalinism: The Face of Failed Extremism” on it along with “This is our WAKE UP CALL!” Unlike Ms. Valle, there were no cameras to capture what the cowards did to me…the evidence of my attack was clearly in the damage to my face, and the looks of shock and horror by my companions who were ahead of me on the crowded dark sidewalk. No, these people are cowards who travel in packs, just like dogs. They are tough and mighty then. They lack the ability to discuss their issues, they are angry and the only way they feel that they can calm their anger is to do harm to the perceived enemy.

snip

after an MRI and examination it was determined that I was very lucky. I suffer to this day (nearly 2 years later) from constant pain in my left cheekbone…but, as my doctor said, the force from the impact and then the compression from the boot on my head could easily have resulted in pressure popping my eye out and a shattering of my cheekbone requiring a metal plate and surgery. So yes, I am lucky…in a sick and twisted way.

I was a an obama event in 08 and god bless America was sang by this young girl.... People literally were standing and taking their hats off... And the more people that stood, the more would join in... And all I could think was look at this orwellian picture... A few people thought it was the national anthem and the rest join on in. It was really quite odd... And people were stinking over the words. I only wonder how many realized what fools they looked like? Or even realized the difference?

the threats of violence and the actual violence are from the right, the 2 Republicans he had on his show last night shouted him and Larry O'Donnell down and insisted it wasn't Republcians, but both sides. Unfortunately, as always happens, he and O'Donnell let them shout over thier perfectly good points so no one could hear them. I wish the people on our side wouldn't let the RW screamers always get away with shouting them down.
