Spending cut I got your spending cut!
So the Repukes want to cut social spending, huh? Fine.

It's time for the Democrats in congress to put on their best pokerfaces and raise on the Repukes "promise" to cut spending. How do we do that? The Democrats in congress should construct a bill in which every dollar cut in social spending a dollar gets cut in military spending. Let the Repukes spin that. We've already had welfare reform, now we should have a miliary spending reform.

It's a winning argument especially if they're controlling the House and our backs are against the wall. WE can then go to the people and show them the profits being made by Haliburton and Blackwater, we can show them how much military spending has gone up in the past 10 years, we can point out the waste that takes place in the Pentagon.

If and when the Repukes back down we can go to the people and tell them we were willing to work with the GOP but they did not want to give up the military industrial complex...

3. There have been opportunities to cut spending, but none were taken.
Dems gained control of the House in 2007, and IIRC, spending bills originate there. And doesn't the Speaker control which bills go to the floor?

The thing to do is to replace the incumbents - the House, and 1/3 of the Senate - and perhaps the new group won't feel like they have permanent job security.

4. During Bush's regime when Cheney practically owned Halliburton
they got all those no bid illegal contracts. That was so Cheney could accrue up to over 80 million dollars. I mean the law is supposed to be that political figures get rid of stock in companies they would be voting or passing bills on. Cheney said he could be impartial and we see how that went. Like Scalia who accepted the hunting trip from Cheney said he could be impartial when voting on a bill that favored Cheney. As long as crooks like Cheney are in office and are stealing taxpayers money like this the defense budget will never go down.
