I just got back from a town hall meeting with Scott McAdams.
The more I see of this guy, the more I like him. How very refreshing to have a Democratic candidate in this red state, in this day and age, who doesn't run from his party affiliation but embraces it and all it stands for. Scott McAdams will be a GREAT senator if we prevail on Tuesday. He states his positions clearly and consistently, he takes the high road, and he isn't intimidated. Ya gotta love him.

Here are a few photos.

Senator Mark Begich warms up the crowd, and his optimism is infectious. He tells us that in a new poll out this weekend, the undecided vote here has jumped from 6 percent last week to 20 percent this week, which would seem to indicate that Dems and indies who were considering voting for Lisa based on their Millerphobia are now having second thoughts.

The big man takes the stage.

A lady on the front row speaks of the polar bears and the declining Arctic ice and asks Scott's opinion on global warming. Of course, he does not deny the human element in global warming and has good ideas on how to transition to clean, renewable energy sources.

Another audience member asks what can be done about the incivility so apparent in our country today. Scott speaks of his experiences across the state bringing people together to solve problems.

Scott mingles with the people after the meeting

This one man in the Senate could do so much to salvage Alaska's reputation, after the circus sideshow of Palin/Miller. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers on Tuesday.

3. K/R! We are all for Scott McAdams.
He would be an asset for his state and his victory would be a hard kick in the ass to the quitter.

10. Have you had a chance to meet Scott at all, RV?
Do you get any sense of how the people in your conservative neck of the woods are responding to him?

33. No. I have seen him on the tv and he's great. A lot of conservative
people down here HATE lisa and miller. Its weird. They will be voting or not based on that. My sister-in-law is my bell weather. She won't vote for either because they violate her sense of decency and she's very conservative. I am hounding her to vote McAdams. :) Some dipshit on the phone today at work made a remark about 'you aren't voting for that guy' when I accidently called him MCAdams. I said yes. I wanted to add suck it but this is my sister's phone. :)
Hugs, Blue. You are the best.

4. You're a gem, Blue!
So, the fact that the undecideds number has grown so much is in our favor. I know you've mentioned before that Alaskans tend to keep their cards close to the vest, particularly when there's a fear of retaliation.

Thanks for the update. I hope that big ol' teddy bear gets elected!

21. Yes.
Here's his wife Romee and two of his three kids (the two dark-haired girls). He's got a little boy, too, who you can't see in this picture hiding behind his mother.

5. Murkowski is one of the top obstructionists on laws to deal with climate change.
Replacing her with McAdams would be a huge victory with long-term national significance.

7. Sounds like we could use him in the Senate....
Not just because any warm Dem body is a good body to have. But because he genuinely sounds like he's a proud Democrat.

I really hope it works out for him. I know I'll probably be watching that race more than a lot of the others because of how interesting it looks to be.

Good luck, and thanks.

this has been the most entertaining race I've ever seen! Miller's crash and burn has been spectacular!

Is Begich a good guy or a bad guy?

22. I think Mark's basically a good guy.
Some people really can't stand him, though -- more on the Republican conservative side than on our side. We get mad at him for being too centrist and they get mad at him for being a socialist. You know the drill.

that seems to attract people. He inspires trust, I guess you could say. That's a real rare thing among politicians.

For most mature people, it's not an issue. He has always been a big guy and played football in high school.

35. Thank you, mrs_p
My husband and I went over to Kodiak last spring for a few days, which was the first time for me, even though I've lived here since 1975. Such a beautiful place. I'll bet your hubby is really enjoying it. Have you ever been? I've got some pictures posted at my website if you want to check them out. http://northernvisions.smugmug.com/Vacation/Kodiak-April-2010/11895088_5ocwe#841859864_JBFuF

37. gorgeous pics!
i've never been to kodiak, though this is hubby's fourth stint. i was up in anchorage last year for the running of the reindeer and the iditarod, and want to go back to explore -- which i think would take me about 35 years too! i'm preggo now, but i think that if he goes back up next year, baby and i might go for a visit.
