NYTimes: Republicans Try to Lower Expectations
Edited on Sun Oct-31-10 07:38 PM by Generic Other
Even as surveys predicted a huge night for Republicans on Tuesday, leaders of the party on Sunday sought to play down expectations.

Senator John Cornyn, the Republican of Texas charged with running the Senate’s election efforts this year, said on ABC’s “This Week” that he doubted Republicans will take over the Senate.

“I’m not predicting that we will get the majority this cycle,” Mr. Cornyn said. “I think it probably is going to take two cycles, but there is certainly a potential there, depending on just how high and how broad this wave election is.”

In a separate appearance, Michael Steele, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said his party should be viewed as successful even if it fails to retake the House by winning more than 39 seats.

2. Translation: Repukes are terrified. Their plan to demoralize Dems and suppress
voter turnout isn't working so well.

6. Hope you are right
I am sitting here in my state screaming at the tv all acting like the race has been won by them/lost by us. Probably same thing happening across the country in blue households! I am losing my mind. No excuse for GOP to win seats anywhere!

4. Analysts for the NY Times said the Democrats would have to lose ALL seats
in the Senate for the thugs to gain control. Sounds good to me!

Of Cornyn, Steele, & Democrat Kaine, Kaine was the only one to say outright that his party would keep both houses. I'm with Kaine.

7. Seattle Times predicting we'll keep senate and house...
Matt Barreto, a political-science professor at the University of Washington, said his recent polling suggests Democrats likely will prevail in the Senate and congressional races, in part because tea-party voters don't seem as motivated in this state as they do in others. But win or lose, he said, Democrats should stand warned.

10. I will say one thing if the Democrats don't start kicking
republican ass and change the filibuster and 60 vote rule they will let the republicans win. The republicans are never going to vote to pass any bill the Democrats propose, and the Dem's better just realize that. Bipartisan isn't going to work. Democrats need to get that steel spine and start doing their job.
