More & more in MSM using the word Democrat
instead of Democratic or Democrats. I think this is a disturbing trend.

2. When someone says it to me, I embarrass them
by correcting them.

It's the only way to stop it.

Why do our leaders and supporters not do this? Daily? Every time it's uttered and they're in ear shot?

5. If you want to razz them a little
Just tell them that when their English gets a little better, they'll not make that mistake, and
then hardly anyone will notice they're immigrants.

29. Heh... I've sort of done that, too.
I live in Tennessee... I ask them why they expect immigrants to speak English when they can't...

OH! And I was born and raised here!

6. That's the one thing I will give Tweety credit for..He corrects and/or
interrupts every time. Howard Fineman was quite embarrassed and never said it again..LOL.

19. Hmmm
Howard should know better than that -- wish I'd seen that episode. I expect more from him. I always appreciate it when Chris M corrects people on this on his show but the other day I thought he used democrat when he should have used democratic so it was probably just an oversight on his part.

8. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but letting bullies make fun of my name
IS WHERE I DRAW THE FUCKING LINE AND DROP THEIR ASS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLAYGROUND!

BTW, my surname sounds like a fruit, but isn't spelled that way. I can tell you this, bullies are encouraged by silence when they mock you, and when you bust their incisors on the metacarpals of your lefthand, they shut the fuck up and don't cut in line in front of you to play tetherball.

a dirty word. And it's working.

12. It's a pejorative usage.
The word "Democrat" is a noun, not an adjective, but people on the right use it as an adjective anyway to show contempt, as in "DemocRAT Party." I think it might come from the early Internet days when wingnuts got on message boards and started typing the word "DemocRAT" for everything relating to the Democratic Party.

14. Of course you are a Democrat - who belongs to the Democratic party,
not to the Democrat party. They use the name improperly to diminish us.

It may not be important, but it is a part of the incessant needling that bullies like to do.

22. You are a Democrat, part of the Democratic Party.
Many times I hear "Democrat Party" or some variation. It's either sloppiness or plain ol' maliciousness and it really pisses me off. The same mistake is never made of the republicans.

13. Maybe you should be clearer in your OP - people are Democrats, and our party is the DEMOCRATIC Party
there is no such thing as "the Democrat party", but we're seeing it in the press, and from the mouths of the other side, over, and over, and over these days.

I'm frickin' sick of it.

18. Exactly - "Democrat Party" saves a lot of wasted time. "Obama the chosen one"
or the "Messiah" version of the phrase makes me know I don't need to waste time listening or reading.

Opps I forgot "Obamacare"

20. Chuck Todd did it the other night with Brian Williams...
...talking about the "Democrat base". We should start emailing them and asking if it's simply poor grammar or an intentional promotion of the right-wing agenda.

21. It's evolved into a sort of short hand "code" whereby conservatives and other Rethugs identify
each other as agreeing to the wholesale condescension and denigration of Dems.

I honestly believe it is a manufactured, and effective, technique that is designed to consciously and unconsciously work on the public discourse to poison the atmosphere about the Dem side. If you hear the right wing bloviators, they emphasize the DemocRAT in their rants. Their callers all use it. And so when mainstream journalists (cough), and professional politicos, and even members of Congress use it - it reinforces and amplifies the contempt that people have heard sitting in waiting rooms with Faux playing, or in a car with a dittohead, or wherever.

I don't like it either. I think the Rethugs have mastered the language of divisiveness very well aka Frank Luntz and we dismiss stuff like this at our peril.

And I honestly don't think they were all trolls either, it's become so common that some people who should know better are picking it up via a form of osmosis.
