1. Straight Democratic
I was thinking about voting for one repub who is my Alderman until I recently contacted him with a problem I've had with the city and he blew me off. So fuck him. Straight ticket it is.

17. I voted straight Dem, then I read your reply.
Oops. I am voting for the republican sheriff, too. He is the only candidate. But he won a primary against the do-nothing incumbent. He is a good guy, a neighbor, and a personal friend. As a deputy, he came to my house when we were having a continuing problem. All these years later, he remembers that! And he handled some problems locally a number of years ago. He was a voice of reason when some skinhead kids were trying to bully their way around the school and the town.

I know some endearingly funny personal stories about him, because this is a small town.

You know that this is the way we get good Democrats in office locally. Find well-respected neighbors and get them to agree to do some community service. If their neighbors like them, it will not matter if they are republicans or Democrats. I have seen it happen many times here, even though this is a red area. The trick is getting people to run.

36. Yeah, he is good, but he didn't get my vote -
I opted for straight Dem, and didn't bother to make the extra mark for him because I have no doubt he's going to win anyway.

If I thought he had real opposition I might have had to give it some thought, but even the Independent backed him, so...

He knows and does law enforcement well. I didn't vote for him when he first ran, but later I met him by chance. Carries himself well and he's not full of fluff, shit, or whatever. He runs the office very well.

By no means am I gonna hang with him at Repub. HQ or anything, but as long as he sticks with sheriff, and doesn't get cozy in the spot, he'll have my vote.

44. Never have, but it seems to me that the department is remarkably
free of scandal and corruption and abuse of authority from top to bottom - at least I'm not hearing about anything in the papers - so he must be doing something right. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I think it speaks well of him that Sills campaigned basically on "I'm the other guy".

people like Spitzer. She served time in Riker's, whereas (she cleverly points out) Spitzer did not stand trial. She is running for governor of NY, a big gay marriage supporter, legalize marijuana and prostitution. Kind of hippy-dippy, and not an entirely serious candidate, but as she puts it, "Vote Homo, not Cuomo" as a protest.

... as the architect and ....some say... *author*... of the 1982 "vote for Cuomo, not for the homo" ... sleaze-bag campaign against Koch for GOV. ( Cuomo Sr. won. Cuomo Jr. was camapign chief. The rest of the story..well.... some cozy nite by the fire , kiddies.)

Still... what if Paladino wins?

37. What are you talking about?
Cuomo has been very vocal about "gay marriage."

This is from his plan:

Enact Marriage Equality
The State has been surpassed by many other countries which have legalized same sex marriage including the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden and Portugal; as well as by many states which have also done so including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire. Marriage equality is a question of principle and the State shouldn’t discriminate against same-sex couples who wish to get married. Barring marriage equality denies same-sex couples and their families over 1,000 federal and 700 state rights and responsibilities.196 For instance, spouses have hospital visitation rights and can make medical decisions in event of illness or disability of their spouse; employers offer spouses sick leave, bereavement leave, access to health insurance and pension; and the law provides certain automatic rights to a person’s spouse regardless of whether or not a will exists. None of these rights exist automatically for same-sex couples in the absence of marriage.
As Governor, Andrew Cuomo will not stand for such discrimination. He will fight to make sure all couples have equal marriage rights under the law.

16. My Congressman's pro-war so I will never vote for him.
That's probably a no vote since I doubt if there's another candidate on the ballot. Aside from GOP.

I haven't decided about Cuomo. Might vote for him on Working Family line since I don't like him for a variety of reasons ( weak on GLBT, weak on unions etc. )but the other guy, a complete idiot, could concievably win. Stranger things have happened.

I'll vote DEM for state comptroller and state atty gen.

Gillibran..... probably yes. There's a picture of her in the dictionary next to the word "mediocrity", but it's the Senate.... and we can't afford to take chances.

21. I'll vote for the most progressive, anti-war, candidates on the ballot.
Even if I have to write them in.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." John Quincy Adams

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

27. I applaud your stance.
I am voting AGAINST our Dem County Commissioner because he is all ego and no follow thru.
Loves the office, is never available to people who need to talk to him.

Our town is small enough that a few votes will make a big difference in some races, and is Republican enough that a few write-ins are the only option in some races where there are firm Blue Dogs or obviously strawmen on the ballot.

The most fun in voting is the list of very weird names, which would delight Mark Twain.
One candidate is named Young Boozer.
In a county that frowns on alcohol.

29. Straight Dem. Sigh, I've even been doing a little calling. Depressing.
My representative is safe and awesome. But the idea of Meg Whitman was just too much. So I broke my own promise and did a little bit of calling over the weekend. Not much. Nothing near what I did in 2008. Whitman is just that heinous.

I am furious with the Democratic party right now. But, as a gay man, I have to stick with a punch in the face over a knife between the ribs. It's a hell of a choice, and I loathe it. But, I figure, I don't want President Obama to have an excuse to spend another two years pissing all over the gays. I want a Democratic Congress to force an ultimatum on him, to see this guy's true colors when it comes to gay issues.

We've already seen them, but it's almost a dare for me at this point. Go ahead, piss us off some more. See how that goes in 2012.

Including the latest blob of flesh we managed to scrounge up to run against Tyrone "Dana" Rohrabacher, which is a travesty considering good 'ol Tyrone is considered a joke even among Republicans and was left for dead in 2008 by the National Republican Congressional Committee. He is basically Andy Milder's character from Weeds.

We have really out done ourselves this year, we found a candidate worse than Debbie Cook!, a disheveled alienating mess named Ken Arnold.

...I refuse to get all emotionally worked up and stressed about it this year. I've done that with every election since 2000, and it does no one (least of all myself) any good. I will take the action that I can personally take, and then let the results be as they are. Whatever the outcome, I will work with it from there.

45. I'm perfectly capable of voting "Green",
having done so in 1996 and in 2000. But almost every vote in this mid-term election is a vote to affirm or repudiate Obama. I had no trouble at all with voting for Pat Murry and Jim McDermot. But has either or both been "Blue Dogs", provided that Obama had indicated that he'd work with them, I'd also vote for them. It's that important!

70. I wish I could vote straight Dem, as usual, but this time I can't.
There is one Democrat running in one of our local races who since the primaries has been caught lying about where she lives, had drivers licenses in both Indiana and Michigan, cars registered there when she supposedly lives here, gets the senior exemption on her property tax when the house is in her father's name and he's been dead since 1953, it just goes on and on. I just can't vote for her. I don't know if I can force myself to push the button for her republican opponent, so maybe I'll just skip casting a vote for county assessor this time.
