My son works at the airport for one of the contract service providers in their operations center. He told me about 25 jobs newly available . . . . so far.
It seems the company that provides some of the guard services (not TSA-type services) just won contract renewal. The bad news is, it was a pure low bid deal. So, in order to keep the contract, they got the union to agree to pay cuts, some as much as $5.00 an hour. Since the people in these jobs have to meet a fairly high standard (100% clean criminal record, including traffic issues, educational minimums, etc.) they remain in some level of demand if they choose to quit and move on.
It is the jobs of people who have taken that route that are now available. They start around $11.50 an hour for entry level and $16.00 for supervisors.
What about the union? What do you think about agreeing to deep pay cuts to save a contract? To save jobs?
