Growing signs that Latinos will jam polls for midterm elections

Will Latinos vote en masse in Tuesday's midterm election or are they so disillusioned by unfulfilled promises and empty rhetoric they will simply stay home instead of exercising their right?

The question is relevant because, come Election Day, their votes could decide the outcome of several key races.

A recent national poll from the Pew Research Center found that a sizable majority of Latinos support the Democrats - also the case in New York - but they are unlikely to turn out in huge numbers on Tuesday.

However, despite the fact that midterm elections historically attract fewer voters than presidential contests, local community groups disagree with the Pew finding and cite a new poll supporting their contention.

Snip> Latino Decisions, a research firm, found that the level of enthusiasm among Hispanic voters has risen from 40% to 60% in the past month, which means that, like it or not, Latinos are poised to play a significant electoral role.

Angle's racist ads plus the campaign to convince Latino voters to stay home and not vote have backfired in a big way and may very well swing the election Reid's way.

Fingers crossed.

There was a huge surge in Democratic early voting in Nevada. I think the Latino's are pissed off and they will carry Reid over the top buy a very narrow margin of 1 or 2%.

Should help in CO too.

He said the Nevada GOP party is a hollow shell. There is a wad of out-of-state cash flying in and KRove is in it up to his elbows, but they don't have a good GOTV infrastructure in place.

Looks like Harry Reid may have caught himself a break.

Angle has signs and bumperstickers and crap all over the place: Reid will give you stuff if you really want it, but they are much more focused onGOTV.

Ironic because, in my opinion and experience, the state Dems were in a shambles until 2008. Its a miracle Harry ever won anything here.

Now it's all about the ground game and harvesting that advantage.

Which is Sharron Angle country -- can I say I PERSONALLY talked 3 of my GOP rels out of voting for her??? 2 are voting Reid and my Uncle Bill who hates Reid with a passion is voting "none of the above" after I sent him her comments about autism -- he adores his autistic grand-niece! They just don't hear that stuff in the Fox bubble. Anyhoo -- my niece who attends U of N Reno is hugely GETTING OUT THE VOTE at that campus and has been registering people for 2 months! YES I THINK THERE WILL BE A SURPRISE IN NV!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed tomorrow. I'll be a little bit surprised if Harry pulls off a win. A surge of Latino voters would sure help.

The ones who were voting against him were very on the fence about it....they thoght Sharron was "unstable." It was kind of a short putt to talk them into Reid was better for NV. Uncle Bill -- well, I'll take the "none of the above!" He truly can't stand either one of them at the moment. My feeling is that he wouldn't be horrified if Reid got reelected he just won't vote for him, but he's nervous about Angle. He was like "she'll make us (meaning, No NV -- he does not consider Las Vegas NV!) look like fools!"

I know quite a few conservatives who realize how unstable Angle is and are voting for her anyway. They are willing to put someone that they know is an extremist nutcase in the U.S. Senate if it means Reid loses his job. For them, it is all about "sending a message" against the agenda of "socialist" Obama.

I work with so many people with that opinion.

Like Bill Maher said, it's like, "I'm mad at my dentist, I know, I'll brush my teeth with shit!" I mean, putting her in the mix, way to make a bad situation worse. I hope people wise up when it gets right down to it and AT LEAST vote "none of the above!"

they may disagree about abortion, but they are solidly democrat.

Voting is pounded as a duty in mexico.. A low turnout is 70%.

This is why the voter suppression...

I wrote about the California race last Monday, based, in part on the LATimes/USC poll.

The Latino approval rating for Pres. Obama is way above that of non Latinos. The chart below
is the "net approval" rating for gov, Senate and Obama. Damn! Look at those #'s for California
Latinos - 50% approval for the president


The poll didn't that Latino's would vote at any higher rate than the rest of the population. If
that's changed, and it seems so, then we're talking blowout numbers in California.
