Wells Fargo Repossesses A Fully Paid Off Car
Keeping up with your car payments, it seems, is not always enough to keep away the repo man. As King 5 TV reports, Adlantis Newton, a Tacoma, Washington, resident, says she faithfully paid her car payments of $299 each month and had a title proving that she owned her 1999 Chrysler LHS. Which didn't stop Wells Fargo from seizing the vehicle anyway. (Hat tip to the Big Picture)

Only after being called by King 5's Jesse Jones did anything happen. Newton tells King 5 News that the President of Wells Fargo -- presumably they're referring to John Stumpf -- called her personally about the matter. The car was soon delivered back to Newton's door.

7. I think what they did is called 'theft'.
Someone at WF needs a visit from John Law.

5. It seems that banks have no idea where any of the
paper work is.

I guess when you take out loan from a bank
even if you pay it off they still think
they own it.

26. I just finished reading and annotating a 32 page article (working draft)..
written by Christopher Peterson, Professor of Law at University of Utah.

All about the Mortgage Electronic Registration System (MERS).

It. Would. Curl. Your. Hair.

I expect the mortgage bankers and the securitization folks are sh*tting themselves hoping the implications of this don't get out. It's worse than anyone imagines. :(

31. Can you elaborate?
I understand if it's too technical or just too long, but if you can give a quick overview, it would be helpful. I don't think I'm alone in saying I don't really understand any of this. :)

Especially JPM Chase, Bank of American and Wells Fargo.

The fraud is reaching critical mass.

35. They did neither - that's at the end of the clip
They didn't wash it, and they left the tank empty.

I think she's owed some compensation, and, as people say, if it were a person, Wells Fago would be in jail now. The fact that it, and none of its employees, are, only goes to show that corporations should never get 'personal' rights in any other field, when they get away scott free in major parts of the law.

9. This is aggravating. If she were a millionaire, I bet Wells Fargo wouldn't be so cavalier.
As it stood, she's just working class. They figured she probably didn't have the legal resources to wage a war, but they weren't betting on the awful light of publicity in their face. How many other people have faced similar problems but had to wage the war alone for far longer to get back wrongfully repossessed cars?

This is just another example of why regulation by government is necessary to hold corporations accountable.

None of these banks should've ever been allowed to grow to the size they currently are.

They're too big to function properly. It's not comforting to have repeated incidents of lost documents and inept staff.

17. I doubt someone was consciously trying to screw her over though.
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 11:12 AM by xor
It's just that they don't care enough to look into things deeply enough. They see what's on their computer and just run it through... They really should have better systems in place to clear stuff like this up, and if they do, then they need to educate their employees on how to fix them... You're right though, if it was a millionaire who had this problem, then it would have been solved way quicker. I don't think because of some sort of war against the working class(at least not directly), but rather because the millionaire would have had his lawyer on the phone within minutes. Either way, it's pretty screwed up that they can just "ohhh, oops" and not explain or do anything to pay for their mistake. Losing transportation is a major thing for people who actually have to work and do stuff themselves. :/

11. They should be forced to explain how and why that happened..
They should also have to payout something for what amounts to stealing the car. Yeah, shit happens and mistakes are made, but us normal folks usually have to pay up when we make mistakes, they should too.

They are also assholes for not requiring this lady to have to go to the media to get answers. Awesome customer services. NOT!

20. Somebody at Wells Fargo should be charged with Grand Theft Auto, but that
being said, how would they expect to sell the car without the title?

I guess that's a minor point as far as the banks are concerned, as they're above the law. Just steal people's property and away you go.

Anyway, "titles" mean nothing to the banksters, especially real estate chain of title (and most DUers probably don't know the half of what's been done in that regard. It's a catastrophe.)

Time to try, convict, and incarcerate individual bankers! :nuke:

25. It's still grand theft auto.
And I expect the corporation person of Wells Fargo to be prosecuted for their crime.

She held the title. Taking a car that you don't own is known by one word, theft.

27. I believe it ,
it took me over a year to get the lien off my title after it was paid off from Wells Fargo...with letters and phone calls every single month...it wasn't until I wrote the CEO John Stumpf that I got any results...of course he just handed the letter to his assistant and said take care of it...but I got my title lien free now...

33. Do you know Catherine Austin Fitts, Blue_Tires?
"One of the things that is interesting about reading conspiracy theory is that much of what folks think is conspiracy is really many people acting in concert to make or protect their money." - Catherine Austin Fitts

A big shot in Poppy's crew, Fitts got fed up with the corruption at the highest levels of government, business and finance. She's doing all she can to document corruption on Wall Street and Washington and helping those who give a damn do something about it. Her Narcodollars for Beginners deserves a Pulitzer.

Integrity is an alien concept to the plutonomy. Same for the police state.
