There may be record turnout elsewhere, but it was dead here

"Here" being precinct 60 in Huntington WV. The poll worker said it had been very slow all day. I was in and out in about 15 minutes, unlike the 2008 election when we stood in line for almost an hour to vote.

Now, this *might* be a good thing. Huntington is a conservative city, and if our polling place was dead because a bunch of Repubs stayed home (perhaps because the TV told them the win was in the bag?) that would be sweet. Unfortunately, I have no way to know if this was the case, so for now, make of it what you will.

One thing I do know for certain: I voted a straight Democratic ticket. Now I'll spend the rest of the day with fingers crossed, hoping Joe and Nick Joe can pull it off. :)

There was no line at our precinct, but there was MUCH more activity than usual. Normally it's me and one other person - there were at least a dozen people there this morning around 10.

Not a huge district, but that is disappointing.

Unfortunately, several of them are unwilling to vote for Manchin because of his stance on mountaintop removal, and they're voting 3rd party. I fought with them to the point that we had to just agree to disagree and let it go.

Democratic ticket? My mother said my grandfather always said be sure and always check the rooster. Maybe they don't use that in your area but I know they still do in the northern panhandle. Seriously what animal represents the Republicans?

But here, if you wanted to vote a straight ticket, you pushed the "Democratic" button, and for Repubs, you pushed the "Republican" button. Of course, it wasn't a real button, because we use touch screens, but you get the idea.

Maybe that was an old-fashioned way to do things for people who didn't read well? :shrug: But our ballot was all animal-free.

I voted at 07:15 AM, just 15 minutes after the polls opened, and there were hardly any people there. However, I hear that most Californians have voted by mail early, so perhaps that was the case here? It could have also been that I was there earlier than most voters, so there was absolutely no line, and it was a LONG ballot with multiple propositions, etc.

I haven't heard people talk about it much. I do know that a lot of my friends are voting today, but they're mostly in other parts of town.

(at least in the L.A. area) between 8-9 AM and 6-8PM (before people go to work and after they are off work). And few people actually work close enough to their polling places that they can vote on their lunch hour.

which is up about 30 by my unofficial estimate - and it was steady. I saw many who I know have voted Dem in the past standing in line.

I have a good feeling.

According to that source about 25% of all West Virginians voted early, which isn't a huge number, but still a noticeable number. Plus, it's pretty early in the day, and maybe more of your fellow citizens will show up later on.
