Question from a international reader of DU about your midterms
Was the result worse, better or about what you excepted, how media are saying this is huge for the repugs?

I personally think Obama has to kick butt now, and go political postal. No biparitsian stuff.

1. It's pretty brutal in both the House and Gov races
The House is a near catastrophe; the Gov races are bad as they spell trouble for 2012.

In the Senate, we seem to have lost a good deal of the races thought to be close.

It's not good.

2. It went as projected by pollsters - lose the House, keep the Senate, with some losses
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 01:37 AM by kenny blankenship
I don't follow that stuff in any depth, but the outlines of what happened conform to the consensus of pollster predictions. So no surprise here, generally speaking. The only big surprise is Harry Reid surviving. Pollsters almost unanimously had him losing to Angle right up to this week.

Yeah this is a big fucking deal for Republicans. Now they have the ball, and I'm afraid that the "Democratic" Senate will start passing legislation at a rate that will look scorching compared to the last two years. Veto Pen? We'll see.

4. I think that historically for a midterm, it was about right.
At least the senate isn't lost...yet.

5. Better than I had expected.
Some surprises. The media is playing it up (as usual) as a Republican upset.

6. Narrow win for the repubs
far worst than what the press expected, and more or less what I expected, which was a narrow lead for either party.

I actually expected us to keep the house by a very narrow margin.

But this is NOT 1994 by any stretch, and the new freshman class will give the leadership heartburn.

8. It's actually better than I expected...
I thought Reid would lose and I didn't hold out a lot of hope for Barbara Boxer.

9. About what I expected
The economy is in a tough spot and we always lose a certain amount in the midterms.

We did fine and much better that was predicted.
