I wonder if the white house will blame the professional left for tonight's losses
and ignore the fact that their centrist/rightward capitulation had as much to do with this as Citizen's United.

2. No, maybe the economy had something to do with it.

:eyes: The left had nothing to do with these results. But nice flamebait.

24. we would not be having this conversation if the economy was
better. there were no scandals and basically the dems did a good job with the budget. most of what the repugs were screaming about was tarp and stimulus and those appeared to be taking care of themselves. it was the poor economy that killed us.

18. and we would still have both houses if they had followed bill
clinton's path. man this is so freakin crazy that they don't see this. it's the economy stupid (not anyone on du), dem leadership should have that down pat by now.

21. BClinton lost both houses of Congress in 1994; is that the path you're referring to?
In 1994, Rs picked up a net gain of 53 seats in the House and 7 in the Senate; the Democrats losing control of both houses of Congress.

President Obama on the other hand held the Senate and that's pretty f*ucking huge on its own and certainly comparatively.

23. yeah, but he came pretty damn close to losing both, and don't
think for a minute the repugs aren't trying to make deals to get people to flip in the senate. and don't forget what president clinton was pushing for during those first two years.

7. Wait till the President's press conf. tomorrow when he announces (of his meeting with Boehner):
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 01:01 AM by Poll_Blind
"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country."

If something like that comes to pass and, honestly, I've heard weirder things come out of Obama's mouth, if that comes to pass that will pretty much seal the deal for me. I'm not sure what deal and what would be sealed, but it sure as hell would be sealed all the same.

10. New Rule
New Rule -
When your policies make the Tea Party seem like a reasonable choice -
THEY SUCK!!!

Move along. No three-dimensional chess game here, unless three-dimensional chess means losing a lot.

Just your average cave-in.

Al Gore lost - too tepid.
John Kerry - too tepid.
Barack Obama - trying to be the tepid, compromising master.

Let's face it, only Bill Clinton can triangulate and truly appear to win, and even that charade lost its luster long ago.

14. No, not "tepid" - undermined and kneecapped
A political party cannot win when it's being bashed by both its opponents AND its supporters.

26. without supporters
I'd say it cannot win without supporters, or without delivering to supporters something akin to what they want and what has been promise, nor can they win without communicating to much of anybody concrete benefits they have created and principled beliefs they go by.

This administration didn't deliver what they promised.

27. True - Better Heroes.
True, and I sure with President Obama had a better list of people to emulate. Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton do not inspire much confidence in me, seeing as how the first one led to all the propaganda and lousy thinking that has helped destroy the country for almost thirty years and the second one did IMO so much to sell us down the river, even while making it semi-palatable at the time.

F.D.R. and Truman, those would be the heroes I would choose.

Oh, and been enjoying a lot of Frank Capra movies recently.

28. Let's put it this way
Let's put it this way, I certainly know that. But he did his tepid best to make it close enough that a few shenanigans could bring it within a questionable call, whereupon it was in fact stolen.

Fighting Democrats - that's what I want to see. Democrats that stand for something and do not back down.

Perhaps with so many Blue Dogs gone and the Progressive Caucus pretty much intact, we will be able to see some inspiring solidarity for a change.
