Corporate/racist./media driven and a lackluster selling job from the White House
The Citizens United case was more destructive than anyone really imagined. "Corporations" (the highly organized big money interests) followed through from step 2 of their plan, the lawsuit, right on to step 3, the election. Democrats scared of losing their corporate funders were shy and tepid in attacking back. The most expensive mid-terms ever ($4 Billion) including an incredible amount of money and ad time bought by the corporations as in investment against slightly smaller profits- they don't invest money to lose money.

The underlying theme in the whole thing has been racism. I know that is any easy claim to throw out but it also unmistakable.

All of this was fueled and fanned by the media. Fox News is the mainstreammedia as they are NUMBER 1!!! and all of the rest of the media follows suit. Clearly. As expensive as the actual campaign was you simply could not afford or estimate the cost of all of the free coverage and promotion the "Tea Party" got. And almost none of the coverage was about who they actually are (see corporations above). Unlike any number of mythical creatures of doom conjured up to scare people the Tea Party was not talked about they were talked to- putting a face on them (even the multiple embarrassing parts) especially as "the person next door" is invaluable. Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd - and two summers ago they got a brand introduction that would make advertising execs have to get drycleaning done.

Lastly my fellow Dems specifically the White House. Obama. With the biggest megaphone we heard almost nothing of actual accomplishments. Yes they weren't all 100% of what we wanted but there were huge earthshaking changes made. I could list them but even the lists that you find online are different from each other and often non-inclusive because the writers leave things out that they don't like. The daily press conference should have included a laundry list of "so far....." but wasn't. History will tell us that these two years were one of the most important and accomplished of any Presidency and Obama may already be considered #15 all-time of Presidents but that doesn't fit well in a 24 hour news cycle where the conventional wisdom is driven by one party and their network and it also doesn't do anything to to make me feel better right now.

I am going for run to sweat this stink off of me and then getting my girl up to go to school. Life goes on.
