I slept through the returns last night
I understand we lost the house but kept the senate. What kind of numbers are we talking about now? How many pukes and how many dems in each?

TIA

1. As far as we're concerned,
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 03:50 AM by PCIntern
there are 435 House Republicans...because that's how it's gonna be. Minority status is meaningless in the House, as we shall see, ESPECIALLY with these folk in charge.

If we have fewer than 70 Senators, we're a minority...if the Repukes have 51, they're an invincible majority.

3. We needed 60 Democrats to do anything in the Senate!!!!

At least that is what we heard for two years.

4. If we had 63 Dems,
we'd STILL have problems...we ALWAYS HAVE FUCKING PROBLEMS...when we win, lose or draw. WE'RE the ones with the problems...Rethugs NEVER have problems...they're the ones with hope and cash...lots of cash.

9. The main purpose in keeping the Senate is for appointments.
Generally, many appointments who go past committee get close to unanimous votes once they reach the floor. But if the GOP took over the Senate, they just wouldn't hold hearings on must Democratic appointments.

So while 50 votes in the Senate can't do much (and in theory, Republicans could filibuster every appointment), in practice, having 50 votes in the Senate is still better than 49 due to appointments.

2. Go back to sleep. Really.
I wish it were just a dream, madokie. We have the Senate 51-46 right now....House: Republicans 239 to 183 as of now.

5. Sleep? Why didn't I think of that, bro? LOL
MSNBC is projecting at least a 53-seat GOP majority in the House:

10. That was the most important vote my neighbor made yesterday
I shit you not. I love the man but I get a kick out of his hypocrisy. For a little back story we, he and I are tinkerers in kind so we share a lot in common on that front and we don't let politics or religion get in our way.

I'm sure we'll only have laws in english too as that was another of his pet peaves LOL

13. I once knew a girl named Sharia. But I was ony a LITTLE afraid of her. :)
Maybe you need to use one of those Fox-Blocker gadgets on your neighbor. The de-programming pretty much works automatically, once the propaganda is cut off. :)

I have conservative friends, too, and with some I can discuss politics--and we even can appreciate each other's jokes at the expense of our respective pols/candidates. We can actually be pretty good at it (though Jon Stewart isn't in any real danger).

I'm picturing your neighbor's sign at a demonstration: "Englihs Olny!1!!"
